Big statement coming--
for those who are hoping for us to lose to our arch rival of over 100 years, a team we have played over 200 times and have fought some classic battles with, a team of the old silvertails v the working class, of 16 Premierships v 14, of Jezza, Nichols, Bradley Silvagni v Daicos, Richards, McKenna and Buckley. For those of you who are putting an untried/ unheard of kid (and moving us just one place higher in the draft order) over 100 plus years of tradition and fierce rivalry is committing footballing treason. They do not deserve to be classed as supporters of the Carlton football club.
I can nod my head at the reasoning (but never entirely comprehend) behind losing to newcomers like Port and Freo, but to Collingwood?? And merely to AVOID finishing last?? The wooden spoon? Humiliation? Another dent in this clubs pristine image?

Yes you can argue the short term pain v long term gain line, or pragmatics over heart and of logic over feelings, but in my 18 years of following this footy club Ive learnt to hate Collingwood and Essendon* with a passion.
No system is going to make me think twice about this.

So why do you bring in the names of Jezza Nicholls, Braddly etc???

Neither club has any giants of the game playing at that kind of level at the moment.
That whole argument is nonselnsica again Josh cos losing that game can be the difference of bringing in that type of player to the club.....

Fancy comparing the current Caarlton team and the current Collingwood team with teams of the past as a reason to not go after that kind of talent???
And you wanna be a lawyer???... hope its environmental law youre wanting to specialise in.... :P

Well put Camelboy.

Shag, i have some advice for you. Try posting half as many posts, giving each of them twice as much thought. Then you may find people are a little kinder.

Its the PRINCIPLE Synners. You know the point I'm getting at but you AVOID ACKNOWLEDGING IT like Beazley does his uselessness.

The principle of LOSING to COLLINGWOOD is too bitter a pill to swallow for me. It should be for Carlton supporters regardless of the small long term benefit. And dont kid yourself- it's a small benefit. The difference between 1 and 2 in years gone by is marginal at best. Wells or Goddard? Roughhead or DeLedio? Kozzi or Riewoldt etc etc.

You're right I do have a massive ego peoples because I know whats best for my footy club. The silent majority share my views 100%. Lets beat the Pies. Its part of the fabric at Carlton (blah blah blah Synners we should chage our fabric to meet changing times-- but some things never change big man. And beating Collingwood is one of those things. PS- environmental law?? rather work at your cafe :) )

old man,
do it at your peril :)
Playing the system is one thing.. throwing 100 years of tradition out the window is an entirely different ball game.

Please.
It's like you believe if we lose this match, the AFL will come to OO and burn all of our history to the ground.
This is another match against Collingwood.
A match in which we will lose and further add to our already shaky future.

You talk about culture and tradition but the only culture you know grows between your toes.

At the moment the last 100 years of our history are insignificant.
You dont look back to what you did in the past you look forward to what you will do in the future.
We have 1 AFL premiership..

None in the horizon....

Do it at your peril????

What you do at your peril is not work the system...and live day to day in hope...

AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

JOSH:

DON'T

TELL

ME

I'M

NOT

WORTHY

OF

BEING

CALLED

A

SUPPORTER

OF THE CARLTON FOOTBALL CLUB

JUST BECAUSE

YOU

DON'T AGREE

WITH

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate that 'I'm a better supporter than you' shit. No-one has the right to hold such a 'holier than thou' viewpoint.

I love the club. I support the club. I hope we get the PP and if we need to lose to Collingwood to get it, I'll wear it. Because I was there at Princes Park when Magro ironed out Jezza and you, Josh, were barely conceived. I've paid my dues, I've laughed, cried, sang the song and traipsed from the ground. I've had good, bad, and mediocre. I've paid my dollars, I've bought my kids memberships and jumpers and badges, I've taken them to family days, indoctrinated them as best I could in the face of the resistance from their very persuasive St Kilda mother.

And no-one, save for people like Frank who've done what I've done except for more years than I've done it, are fit to judge me.

So get stuffed with your 'you're not fit to support this club' crap.

*moral of the story: don't log on when you've just gotten back from a great dinner with two too many wines and you're a bit tired and emotional.

Christ Danny, I'm in a mood tonight.

It's the Irish half of me, no doubt.

Can't wait for 2006. I've HAD IT with this freaking non-season of loss=win.

Right you are PJ.

I'll take myself off to bed now, and drift off to sleep with the dream that starts:

"Player number 89724. Marc Murphy."

And ends with:

"And the 2008 Norm Smith Medalist is... Marc Murphy."

And somewhere in the middle, danny is spilling beer on me as Waite kicks his fifth goal in our during our 17th Premiership.

HOW CAN ANYONE WHO BLEEDS BLUE JUSTIFY LOSING TO AN ARCH ENEMY? I know youve been there Johnny- I have hardly missed a game in Melbourne since I could walk. Im just worried the 'final solution' is being pursued so vehemontly by some of you on here that youre throwing out reason and logic and.. morality in the process.

Thats why I prefaced it with big call.. because it was a big call. Johnny- I have loved your stuff from TBV to now. Every one of your posts I enjoy reading. But please ask yourself.
Do you really want us to lose to Collingwood on Saturday night??
