No, the way I see it, wanting your team to lose is a cop out. It's like everyone here (and the Pies boards as well) are pinning their hopes on some fantasy that getting the PP's will somehow pull them out of the dire straits they have found themselves in right now. Is that realistic??

Will a few picks, a couple of (maybe) future champions really be the magic potion? I don't think so. Who here can honestly say you would be in a much higher ladder position right now if you had Riewoldt and Kosi in your team. It takes TEAMS to win. Not a few players. I remember how excited you all got over Stevens. How did that turn out for you?

Supporters of these teams need to pull their heads out of the clouds, stop believing the PP's will save them, and concentrate on supporting their teams.

I HATE this tanking talk with a passion. And to be honest, I do understand where you're coming from, but I just can't agree. I don't have it in me to go to the football and want my team to lose. I wouldn't even know how.

Very well said. Good post. Agree 100%.

Well said Mandy and I agree the PP's and uncontracted players are not the magic cure and will not rocket anybody into GF contention but its a step towards the ultimate goal. Other steps are good trading and finding the right person who will walk in and fill the void. Is it a cop out we agree/disagree somewhat sadly the tribalism of the days when we grew up no longer exists the great rivalries are being sucked away by the AFL vampires.

My biggest issue and (most likely) yours is the culture of the AFL is being altered and that is the problem. The AFL has been in the process of training us like Pavlic's dogs by rewarding medicity and teachin a expectation that your turn will come in the cycle of football life.

So we are all faced with the reality that poor performance over 1 year or 2 years or indeed 3 years will give the ability to change your fortunes. But that is the system we are all currently operating under a legalised cheating enviroment. I find the present system and the resolutions abohorent in its very nature but what are the alternatives at this present time? We can always line up the brown baggies again but to what end?

i am more on the basis of the fact that i dont look and see either team wanting to win and just this game is leaving a bad feelin in me .... If you dont think that both the BLues / Pie are not aware of the stakes if they loose or win The Media tells us on a daily basis both teams win if they loose. State blues will loose best chance of Picks in draft.. The Pies will loose the extra pick if they loose...
Even the Betting agencies not interested in the match and wont take bets... When a match has this negativity hanging over it is no longer something that has the right feelings about.. I dont know if the teams are tanking or what directives the Match commitee or board level is involved but it just dosnt feel right.. i dont even blame the Blues or Pies for what ever result happens .. its the AFL and they have to change the system to stop people thinking otherwise ... last year it was the Tigers / Bulldogs / hawks. Now other than the Hawks who have stated they are happy to stay in the bottom for a couple of years But the WB or tigers are a bottom 4 team especially the WB they are much better than there form showed in the last rounds of last year

I don't agree...not 100%.

For the thousandthhhhhh time...no Carlton supporter wants the team to lose....but we have been....does 11 in a row ring a bell?

All we say is that getting the PP (that is an EXTRA pick high in the draft) will help us bolster our stocks...

And of course, the closer it gets to the end of the season, the harder it gets to balance up our love of beating our traditional rivals, and realising that we neeeeed to bolster the stock....

If we win 2 games and miss out on a PP, so be it ...we will work with what we are given....but it is madness to be happy that we do miss out....

The boys won't tank this week...I still cannot believe that a tema of athletes that are by nature competitive, can produce that result.

May the worst team win...

*tha above does not reflect Synbad's opinions....heheheheh.

Honestly who can be happy, who can be at peace with a loss of any kind.. what is the correct word for this...what is the correct way to feel when u do something that is not truely in your nature to gain a much needed leg up..afl created this conundrum with their stacking the deck mentality we have to live with our hearts being ripped out.

I wonder - if the Carlton players ARE tanking on Pagan's orders - whether the REALLY good tankers will be looked at favourably at season's end when the inevitable cull occurs. Could be a handy lifeline for those who some supporters believe will be gone at the end of the year.

DENIS: "Sorry Clarkey, you're not in our plans for next year."

DAVID: "But coach ... remember that Collingwood game when you asked me not to hit any targets? I did good that day, remember? I followed your plan!"

DENIS: " ... you got me, son. You followed my orders to a T. You're back next year."

DAVID: "Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy ... I'm in the team, I'm in the team!"

etc

Well well well.

Seems Didak hasn't gotten over his weak heart and has been ruled out for this weekend.

And Mark Williams is undergoing knee surgery..

I tell you what, I will be distraught if we win a couple more and only end up with pick 5 in compensations, for what has been a TERRIBLY SHIT year.

If The Filth and Hawthorn can do it, why don't we? Time for Kouta to do a thigh strain, Fevola to have season ending groin (and head) operations, and Jarrad Waite to be rested for having a 'tiring' year.

Blood will be shed if Collingwood finish below us (well, maybe not but you get the drift).

Ahhhh, so you've caught us out. It was all a sham. We left him on the ground to kick an awesome goal, then assist in another, just to pull him off 20 minutes into the first quarter so the story would look good for him to be left out of the side this week.

When you run out of straws, let me know. We'll pass the hat around to buy you a new supply.

What an absolute waste it would be if we missed out on Picks 1 and 3 after such a shit year!!! This season from hell could only be made worse by having our prized picks taken away from us... AGAIN!! (as Synbad says, Black Friday revisited).

And before you accuse me of being fairweather Mandy, I'm a Social Club member despite living in Sydney.

After winning only 3 games for the year and enduring a horror season, I see no joy in winning another meaningless game with the majority of the oppposition's best players not playing. What a HOLLOW, INSIGINIFICANT victory that's going to be!!

Play Russell, Hartlett, Blackwell etc this week Denis!!

So? Would you like a medal?

Money for people who have it is easy to part with.

I think it's the backbone in supporting your team through the hard times that people here have difficulty with.
