A question regarding Raso. Drafted with the last pick(?) of last years draft, Wayne Hughes stating that if he wasn't picked he would likely go top 20 in this year's draft. Haven't read much about him this year, and curious to know if his form this year suggests this top 20 prediction was accurate?

Excellent thread/question AK.
Would also love to know from people who have seen him play. Cazzessman, BV or 79Vintage maybe?

Surrey, he is more of a key position player....

Really, once Carlton recruited Anthony Raso, you have 15 other club's recruiters or supporters willing to bag the decision to recruit him. ie. Carlton made a mistake taking that early ager or opinion going around that I don't see what stood out about that player as a young 17 year old. And also because he's been selected by an AFL club he is off the radar for draft discussion.

Having said this, his school football form has been passable but he hasn't been a stand out. Not playing TAC U18's it's hard to accurately judge where he would go in this year's draft. His outside disposal is good and he's not afraid to go into pack and win the ball, though as I witnessed in one of his Bullant reserve games he can get brushed off the ball because of his light upper body. Though having said this, he does have an AFL proto type body and with a couple of more years work he'll have no problem holding his own. Don't worry he's more skilful than Prenda, sorry Prenda.

A similar player in this year's draft would be Jonathon Simpkin, who'll be drafted more on potential around pick 15 - 20. Although it's hard to judge where Raso would go this year because of not playing TAC, he'd definitely have gone inside pick 30. Anyone saying he wouldn't is only spreading scuttlebut.

Hughes recruited Mundy to Fremantle, he's a better player than Raso but of a very similar type and build to Raso, and he'll probably be runner up to Deledio in this year's rising star. Maybe Hughes has an eye for these types. Apparently Raso will be full-time football next year, deferring study, so let's have this discussion in two to three years.

Isn't he completing his VCE this year? Or does he have one more year to go?

I reckon he would be hoping for some tertiary study.
Some people get to do that....

Its a tough year for him, if he wants to get into Uni. Its totally possible he's not killing at school footy because he has a bit on his mind!

I could see him going in perhaps the 20 - 30 mark of this seasons draft!

Has been impressive in quite a few games with Hailebury........but has also had some, well....dissapointing games.

Good hands though! Happy we picked him!
