i cant read this shit anymore.

wanting to lose to the pies. flower that. i dont care what silver linning it presents.

i'd rather win this game and lose the next two if i had a choice. who knows maybe the pies will beat the crows or dogs.

if the pies beat us on our own merits like in round 3 then fine i can live with that. i cant live with players tanking games.

all this tank talk is bullshit anyway because any player worth his weight in salt will be out their doing their utmost to win. whether it be a first gamer or a vetran like bucks, they will all be out there trying to knock us off.

a close loss i could handle as long and the endevour and spirt is there like it has been in recent weeks.

in reckon we will win this and loose to the dons and roos. that way even in one of our worst years we will have A) avoided a spoon (maybe) B) won the wizard cup C) beaten all of our arch rivals atleast once, in richmond, Essendon* and the pies

Yeah but we didnt beat the Pies at our merit...
We beat them cos they had Tarrant, Rocca, Fraser, Cloke, Didak and a few others out and we had a full team in......

(If we can beat them that is)

But we cost ourselves...

But yes you can run around and tell everybody you hold bragging rights.

I so wish there was more of this attitude here.

it's a non issue synbad because the player WONT tank.

the only way i can see a tank being manufactured is if we dump 10 senior players for kids this week, or if pagan starts doing things like eddie betts in the ruck. Whitnall on the ball etc etc.

yes the pies will have a hep of kids in, but that is because of the injuries. do you think taz, didak, rocca and co would play if fully fit? of course they would.

this is Carlton and Collingwood.

i'm sick of the tank talk and am going to try and ignore it.

whatever will be will be, if thats 14 with 6 and a half wins then so be it.

if thats 3.5 wins and a spoon then we obviosuly just weren't good enough

So? Would you like a medal?

Money for people who have it is easy to part with.

I think it's the backbone in supporting your team through the hard times that people here have difficulty with.

My point is I am supporting my team by being a paying member. I want what's best for them hence my stance on this whole issue.... Tough Love Mands!

So, the question could have in fact been "Just reading through some of the bulletin boards on the internet this week Ed, it appears as though many fans are hoping for PP's should you lose this week"

gezman its all about perception.
See there is no heat on Hawthorn cos they went about this whole rebuilding thing smart.
They came second last last year avoiding the wooden spoon but took two excellent prospects early in the draft. Traded of their key forward (ensuring they cant really be a threat for a couple of years but have him replaced anyway in the future).. took an untried coach... they all know they wont win many games and have accepted it.
That coach also is coaching not to win too many ensuring more gold in the draft this year (Probably dont need a wooden spoon).. their board , supporters are happy.. because theyre looking at the big picture.

But consider their playing list to ours and then try and work out who needs the better players (# 1 pick and 2 in the top 3 picks .. plus the best uncontracted player available plus first rookie pick.

Theyre playing this 2whole thing smarter than us.. and their supporters understand.. !!

Cos they have been shit for 10 years or whatever it is and weve been shit for 5..!!!

But i suppose in another 5 years we will wake up to ourselves and get abit smarter...

Syn, a fairly general comment there. The Dawks were a kick away from the 2001 GF but overall have not been contenders.

I don't really know your point, yes the question could have been that :?

Quote:
"That's the terrible thing about playing Carlton this week," Collingwood president Eddie McGuire said on radio yesterday. "At the end of the game, if Carlton wins, they'll play both theme songs I reckon … you hate ever thinking about going to a Carlton game where there's an upside in losing."

I think all Carlton supporters share that sentiment, the difference is whether you believe the upside is greater than losing one home and away game

Synbad you couldn't have listened to much talk back radio last year. It was a Hawk fan every 2nd caller whether their match was just played or not, they were absolutely furious with what was happening last year.

Rod, they were a kick away but thats an inconsistency.
They have still been a bottom 4ish club for most of that time.
Consider their history and winning culture over the last 30 years as well...

Its not easy going up .. even harder staying up... but very easy to come down.

Nothing beats talent.

What enjoyment can you get from beating a team that is wanting to loose ... will rest as many players as they want and if we do beat them will be happy with the result.

So my opinion of this game is its just a farce and will force the AFL to change its stupid Draft rules. So Mandy you still think both Clubs i mean Clubs not the players (teams) want this win .... most other people both Blues / Pies ... Media i hear read ... even the betting agencies all think its 2 sides that will be happy if they loose.

As someone said i reckon the AFL will be happy this is on Foxtel and not on channel 10 lol

They had no plan last year.
You can see what theyre building to this year.
Tjeir supporters arent bagging them now are they???
You can argue its just as shit a year for them on paper though.

so why cant we do the EXACT same thing this year?!?!?!

what would be the differnece between us avoiding the spoon and getting two great picks with say picks 2 and 5 plus trading lance for some other decent picks?

in my view we picked up some good good last year so we have already woken up to our selves and become a bit smarter. Betts is good, Hopefully Harlett and Russel will repay the faith we have put in them.

winning this week doesn not gurantee that we will be ahead of the hawks anyway. i'm expecting them to end on 5 wins and us on 4.5.

so we can have it both ways and beat the pies and get the spoon and all the other bullshit thats attached.

Fair point Synbad if I were a Hawks supporter I would be happy with this year. Their supporters don't like how they over possess the ball but I reckon its good because if you have the ball, your opponents don't.
I think we are a couple of years behind Hawthorn though.

Cos weve started from a long way back already.
Because if we win this game and one more were further behind the field.
Because last years top 5 were all better than this years number 2.
Because they took 2 of those 5 players and the likelihood of the one that is kind of as good this year and that puts them 3 players up..(we didnt take any last year) and were the team that needs that more than anyone.
