I reckon you always need to take public-coach-speak with a fairly large grain of salt. No doubt Denis would enjoy winning a few more games, and not finishing last. No doubt he's also looking forward to gaining a priority pick to rebuild the talent levels on the list.
Surely this is in the 'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield' type of claim. It's the correct PR claim, but who knows what he really thinks.
Finally some sanity.
Well done Stefchook - you get the hamper...
I call it "unfinished-sentence speak".
For example Denis says:
'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield'
and Denis means:
'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield for Koo Wee Rup 3rds'
Or this one where Denis says:
'A winning culture is a good culture'
But actually meant to say:
'A winning culture is a good culture but we're [REDACTED] for talent so we're going to tank.'
or maybe even...
'A winning culture is a good culture and since Yakult have been my coaching sponsor I've felt like a winner!'
In the end I don't trust a word out of the mouths of anyone connected with the AFL. Read the Kouta interview in Inside Carlton magazine this month and tell me it's not bullshit PR spin just like everything else.
There's only one bloke in the entire AFL who seems capable of actually saying what he believes and that's Aker.
When you look at the stakes involved these days (money, careers, babes with accoutrements) it's no wonder everyone's willing to spin it constantly to suit their own purposes. It doesn't mean that an individual is necessarily lying at any given time; just that there's no way of knowing.
As long as football people continue to answer questions with the dichotomous "Yeah, nah....." I'll continue to believe/disbelieve nothing and everything at the same time. If it suits my argument I'll probably believe it and if it doesn't I'll probably dismiss it.
Besides I reckon Denis probably has a soft spot for babes with accoutrements so I reckon he'd say anything if he thought he could get away with it...
