Do you believe what Denis was saying?

Menteur, menteur, pantalon sur le feu

Lügner, Lügner, Hosen auf Feuer

Mentiroso, mentiroso, pantalones en el fuego

Ψεύτης, ψεύτης, εσώρουχα στην πυρκαγιά

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Say no more!!

so you think Denis is lying,

so how is he tanking? Do you think it is

a) team selection? Then why not rest someone like Fev who is carrying an in jury?

b) tactics? Surely we should go back to the flood then?

c) Match-day? Yes, yes at halftime 'okay boys you've done really well now i want you to lay down and lose this game'.

Just how is Denis lying?

I just enjoy being a anti christ and wanting doom and gloom to descend upon the club......winning seems the logical way to achieve this....
Jokes aside...I think a winning philosphy is important and keeps morale up and while I would luv to have Marc Murphy at the club I am not prepared to support tanking and prefer to let nature take its course....part of the enjoyment of following the club is the process and I'd really like to see us win a flag by challenging the system and getting a good list together by smart drafting rather than tanking to achieve " no brainer" picks...much more satisfying and rewarding ...

DBoy, when I said "Menteur, menteur, pantalon sur le feu" etc I was not saying that Denis was lying because he is deliberately tanking.

However I am sure that a coach in his situation would not mind losing enough games from here to get the PP as long as he saw that the selected side were having a go. There is a big difference between that stance and Tanking.

Vint79,

That space on the defensive side of ball ups and throw ins has been there ever since pagan got to carlton. My friends and i point it out each week. Costs us a couple of goals each week. I didnt see it in the wiz cup though strangely.

Have noticed this throughout the year too. Although it's not at every setup. But dangerously often at throw ins inside 50.

Yep, sure is, it's as clear as day that it's carried forward this season from the Wizard Cup win.

You can't beat talent

Elwood, I doubt we'll see many clubs winning premierships by challenging the system/smart drafting. Geelong are showing that along with Melbourne.

I reckon you always need to take public-coach-speak with a fairly large grain of salt. No doubt Denis would enjoy winning a few more games, and not finishing last. No doubt he's also looking forward to gaining a priority pick to rebuild the talent levels on the list.

Surely this is in the 'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield' type of claim. It's the correct PR claim, but who knows what he really thinks.

Finally some sanity.

Well done Stefchook - you get the hamper... :-D

I call it "unfinished-sentence speak".

For example Denis says:

'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield'

and Denis means:

'Darren Hulme needs more support in the midfield for Koo Wee Rup 3rds'

Or this one where Denis says:

'A winning culture is a good culture'

But actually meant to say:

'A winning culture is a good culture but we're [REDACTED] for talent so we're going to tank.'

or maybe even...

'A winning culture is a good culture and since Yakult have been my coaching sponsor I've felt like a winner!'

In the end I don't trust a word out of the mouths of anyone connected with the AFL. Read the Kouta interview in Inside Carlton magazine this month and tell me it's not bullshit PR spin just like everything else.

There's only one bloke in the entire AFL who seems capable of actually saying what he believes and that's Aker.

When you look at the stakes involved these days (money, careers, babes with accoutrements) it's no wonder everyone's willing to spin it constantly to suit their own purposes. It doesn't mean that an individual is necessarily lying at any given time; just that there's no way of knowing.

As long as football people continue to answer questions with the dichotomous "Yeah, nah....." I'll continue to believe/disbelieve nothing and everything at the same time. If it suits my argument I'll probably believe it and if it doesn't I'll probably dismiss it.

Besides I reckon Denis probably has a soft spot for babes with accoutrements so I reckon he'd say anything if he thought he could get away with it...

Spot on GWS. He usually calls it as he sees it, everyone else is politically correct or toe the party/machine line. I read his book and it's a very good read.
