I'm not too worried the result of this weekends game. While the PP would be beneficial for the future of the club, I don't see the point in stressing over something that I have no control over.
A few hundred supporters on this site hoping we lose this weekend is not going to change Pagan and the players competitive nature. The players will be out there on Sunday trying as hard as they can; if we win, we deserve it; if we lose, plenty of people here will be very happy.

Carlton and Essendon* have won one each for yonks; we won the first, we'll have to lose the second.

No fear, Priority Picks are here?

If DP doesn't take the opportunity to pick up a PP especially after what he said during the year ie "missing out on the draft really hurt us etc etc", then he has a lot to answer for. As the boys on SEN said this morning this system is pathetic and has to be changed, otherwise you'll get the same talk of tanking every year from clubs with less than 5.5 wins.

Maybe you could just change it to: See you all, I'm off to Punt Road.

Well one player can make the difference to any club.

Take Sticks out of our team of the century and replace him with Ian Aitken

I don't know if that one player we're all talking about this year is a Sticks though... his Under 18s side is 10th and has only won 6 games this year...

Win on Sunday is a loss long term.
Lose on Sunday is a gain long term.

It's that simple.

If we win, it will be the ultimate case of 'shooting yourself in the foot'.

And I will be furious if we win!!!

That's the stupid system that it is, but hey.....

Always nice to beat the Bombers.

Who needs future wins gifted to us for being crap. No respect gained there.

If we are good enough to win then we are good enough to take fifth pick. Thats how our beloved system works. To lose on purpose is to cheat. Lets remember that.

St Kilda and Collingwood both did it a few years back and nobody respects their position. Unless you are blind.

Geez the saints are even cheating the s/cap. No time for their fake climb up the ladder.

Indeed!!

I'll repeat the important bit: To lose on purpose is to cheat

Tanking is the 21st century equivalent of cheating the Salary Cap.

Oh, and where has Josh Fraser got Collingwood? Ever?

Looks at Essendon*'s midfeild!

Hille, Monfries, Bolton, Dyson and Slattery... Luckily they decided to play J.Johnson in there as well.

With the form our midfield's been in the past few weeks we will belt them in that battle.

Oh and then we come to their backline. Who will play on Fevola? Lovett-Murray maybe. :(

They do have a decent forward line. Hopefully Lance plays on Lucas!

One other thing that we have going for us is the teams we've beaten the last month have been ordinary. Richmond... Dropped way off. Port Adelaide... Can't travel this year yet somehow they win their second interstate game of the year. Collingwood... well Collingwood.

Hopefully Essendon* comes oout half serious about the game and they should win.

I'm interested to know what people think Pagan and Collo can do to engineer the said 'tank'. I think any move to drop quality players and play kids would be a seriously bad p.r move for the club as it could possibly yield pages of media attention if it did succeed. I think the club is well aware of what is to be gained and lost in the last rounds of the season, and if they value the draft choices available by taking the spoon then pago could probably come up with a subtle solution from the coach's box rather than drop members of their first 22 - read pies and tarrant.

Absolutely rubbish...to cheat is to break the rules. No one is breaking any rules. If you put a weaker team on the park and they can't match it OR if you try different tactics, player positions etc etc and you lose then how is that cheating?

I'm pretty sure that under AFL rules teams are not allowed to deliberately lose games, the penalty for which is probably being kicked out of the competition.

Ive been tormented all week. On Monday and Tuesday night I had successive dreams about Carlton.

On Monday night I was for some reason taking photographs of a Carlton player (I think it was Bret Thornton) and in the discussion, I heard that that Carlton beat Essendon* by a point.

On Tuesday night, I was talking with Carlton players about football and again I heard in that dream sourced conversation that we beat the Bombers but no winning margin was mentioned.

On hearing this news, I was quite depressed, however this was replaced by a feeling of resignation to us finishing 14th and only getting a single first round draft pick.

Not happy at all about this...Really hope I am totally wrong

Are you 100% sure? Here is a link to the rules http://afl.com.au/default.asp?pg=aboutthegame

Tell me where it says you have to win but anyway that wasn't my point... I didn't say for the coach to tell the players to lose but he could experiment and try different things, still all within the rules of the game.
