db, you didnt read me correctly.
I said we dont have leaders and the closest thing is AB.. not that i would make him captain .. just lamenting the fact we dont have a leader and the CLOSEST thing is a guy who cant cement his spot in the team...

No I read you correctly, I asked so whats the difference between that and me saying he may be a POSSIBLE champion - seems to me none, both are just comments on things that may or may not happen one day if all goes well - or not well. However you worried I was taking a pot shot and your Holy Grail picks, I wasn't, merely hoping that along with that talent, some of the kids we already have turn into champions. But with your agenda its all 'with or agin me pardner!'

You Synbad belong in the old West, ridingf up to a poor homestayer with your pack of hired hands telling them to move on - this is free range territory!

Bentick was never seen as an A grade footballer even at the Cannons.. but he was allowed to captain them...

Just the make up of the kid... in fact he captained a premiership side but didnt get drafted... weird eh??
I bet that says something about his leadership.. (you can also apply leadership in life away from footy you know).. and his football..

so are you saying if you are not A grade at under 18 then that is it? What was Ratten under age - anyone know? Yet he was a champion at the end.

Deisal didn't get picked up either - because this game is obsessed with pace.

See in life things do change, we try to predict that change. That's what you're doing. You're saying as he gets older AB may be a great leader - unless you mean next year?

As he gets older I think he could possibly potentially maybe hope so, become a champion. I know you dismiss people on whims well I try to hope for the best and not you, nor Molsey, nor anyone really will ever convince me it is better to not hope but bag or be bleak or leave hope at the doorstop and wait for the next train, rather than to hope.

I like hope. You should try it sometime, its free, positive and you don't have to cheat to get it.

... but it sets you up for disappointment and it allows too great an expectation to be placed on young kids who are just learning to make their way!! It's hard enough to play your best when our midfield leaks like my Grandma's taps but to become a champ is a huge call. I'm tired of us expecting too much from these guys.

plus db, my earlier post wasn't about hoping / not hoping, it was about the difference in leadership qualities v playing qualities. hope all you want but don't call AB captain material, please, let him play 50 games before we expect anything more.

and as for your earlier post - yes, we are stuffed! If you're hoping that a rookie will become the best player in the team, then db, we are in trouble. Alot of trouble. But 4 years of being amongst the worst hasn't told you that?

ps au revoir - see you at the end of trade week.... IM ON HOLIDAY!!!!

well I'll answer anyway.

No I am not hoping he will be the best player, hell I think all of them will be, and won't. Now I get the draft and I get this is a buisness, and I get losing is winning and I get coming last is better than coming 10th but so what to all of it.

I also remember that this is a game. A sport. A nothingness that we allow to have meaning when it really has none. So playing 'the game' I hope for champions and captains and goal kickers and premeirships and everything else.

But its just a game.

Always.

A sport

except to those who make money out of it or off it.

Luckily I do neither.

So I barrack however I damn well please

because it is just a sport

a meaningless test of stuff that has no real meaning anywhere else.

Except in its ability to entertain.

Oh and If Adam is haunted by my words that we should close this site down

and the ghost should put down his pen

and maybe he'll be okay

course I think he couldn't give two hoots what I say or think

Mind you if he sees Synbad he'll probably shit himself because oracles do that to a boy.

Overkill as usual dannyboy.

Carlton of the early eighties was not so much a team of champions. but a champion team.

db... he wont shit himself you know why???
Cos the club is about to enter a phase of restructuring and development coaches will be brought in instead of focussing on 'making the eight' alone.
The club knows what the next phase is all about and if this year hasnt taught us anything else it has taught us that there are no easy solutions.. just painful ones.
What will ultimately happen is if we do EVERYTHING correctly now.. we will grow into a powerhouse club again.

Stay tuned for a restructuring of what the club and its structures are all about.

Quality not quantity, if we all stuck to this motto we might even have thought provoking readable threads, once more.

Guess we'll have to wait until Carlton are successful again.

oh and Synbad, that news makes me happier than the P.P's. Think we have been as stale as bat's piss with structures so a good shake up and reconstructing would be bloody brilliant!
