I think there are others things to talk about.

Like I'd love it if they'd play Livo at FF on the weekend. Might be stupid, he might not have it etc etc, but shit I'd love it. And if they did I'd hope for the kid's sake he goes out and kicks a bag! Now everyone can explain to me how that would never happen, but I'd still travel to the game hoping

Yeah I understand. It's like Sydney Blue for me. It's that giant pink ribbbon tied to his big purple bum that does it for me every time. Hard to resist but you know it's not going to make you any happier.

Problem is by consistently biting doesn't it just have the same result?

Anyone ever noticed how baboon and buffoon are really similar words...?

Have you been watching me GWS - But you got it wrong its a purple ribbon and a bloody massive pink bum . Well it was the last time I saw it:lol:

How many draft picks did Worsfold have taken away from him...?

If Worsfold had lost what we lost in picks they would have missed the following players:

2000 ND:
Andrew McDougall
Daniel Kerr

2001 PSD:
Troy Wilson

2001 ND:
Chris Judd
Ashley Sampi
Mark Seaby

Don't think West Coast would be doing quite so well FIVE YEARS LATER if they'd missed out on that lot.

Eagles vs Blues....hard to compare really..interstate team with money, good supporter base thanks to being the dominant team in a two club state and a good supply of local kids who want to play in WA....almost like their own recruiting zone...
They seem to be a stable club with good administration and have a very good home ground advantage as well..
Like all the interstate teams IMHO they clearly have advantages over the Vic based teams...

On the other hand we have had rocky administration up until the past years, money problems, have to compete with every other Vic based club for local talent..no salary cap breaks like interstaters...compare us to Essendon*, Collingwood, Richmond....they are in our playing field..interstate teams are not and its a reflection of the Eagles, Swans, Crows, Lions, Port and Freo's ladder positions compared to the old Vic power teams I have mentioned..
Very hard to compete when we are starting from such a long way behind..even Essendon* have financial security over us due to the way they have marketed the club and grown the supporter base...
Put yourself in Denis Pagans and Ian Collins position..plenty of ground to be made up and you can kind of understand why Priority picks are a big deal ....The Eagles are way in advance of us ..on and off the field...

Worsfold started with the Eagles in 2002, is that the 2001 list? If so why is Ball there?

That's true - still the point remains that being excluded from the draft would have been devastating for West Coast (or any team for that matter).

r=this is silly. Comparing apples and oranges never works.

For example. Worsfold could trade into the draft for more/better picks. He could pressure a club with 'we want him or pick 15'.

We could not - for two years. We could not apply any pressure. At all. Zip. Nil. Zilch. Which is why we did as well as could be expected (except for those of you who wanted us toi take the kids at pick 75 or whatevert through to 100).

Imagine being pagan with players x and y that you would like to trade but for what? Not for draft picks can't have them. So you apprach a club and they say - you have this or piss off. What can you come back with?

Pagan/Carlton were royally screwed in all apsects of the draft/trading for two years excdpt for Walker and late picks. We've done okay considering. I mean really the point of the penalties was to bugger us up for a time - hey guess what the reason we hated those penalties is because they did just what they set out to do. Why are people shocked at this?

Last year Denis began to organise his list (before that he was reorganising culkture - different thing). In my eyes he has this year and next before he should begin to show results. Though i think he already has with some of the kids and with that Wizard Cup - still believe that was a small window into the future.

All true.

It continues to amaze me that people don't think we've actually done okay considering everything.

Look at all 15 other clubs and take from them what we had taken from us and ask how they would have fared.

That we've managed to salvage something in the form of Fisher, Thornton, Betts, Simpson, Bentick, Stevens, and the others we've picked up who look like becoming long term players for the club is really quite remarkable.

That we've also looked at new ways with the O'hAilpins etc is also a great positive.

Nobody's pretending everything's rosy but I don't think a lot of supporters quite realise how hard we were sat on our arses.

I remember the observations of experts BEFORE the penalities were handed out saying it would take us 7 years to rebuild that shit list.

how hard then with the penalties.

I reckon we've got about 10 long term players at the club now.

I think to be a premiership threat you probably need about 30 quality players.

If we do well with recruiting we're looking at adding three a year.

Seven more years Danny... :(

I might just say that I think we have done very well and I'm a Pagan fan. (I'm a Campo and Whitnall fan too, which puts me on the outer here. :? )

The only concern I have is that we are not getting much (or any) improvement from the 21-24 year olds.

I really thought that one or more of Davies, Waite, Sporn, Wiggins, Livingston, Prendergast, Johnson, Houla, Norman, Fevola, Bannister would really step up this year.

Waite is the only one to really have improved. The rest? Are they all talentless? I don't think so!

Don't the coaching department have to take some of the wrap?
