As we know, Eagles are much bigger than us. From last week's games:

Average height

Carlton 186.5cm
West Coast 189.2

Average Weight

Carlton 86kg
West Coast 89.7kg

3 kg and 3cm per player is significant. If we can't smash them for speed on the spread and pressure on the ball carrier we're in big trouble.

If Hammer replaces Gibbs we add an average 0.6kg and 0.7cm FWIW.

they need to stuff themselves full on the plane eh?

I was triple checking my figures :hitcomputer:

3cm and 3kg is all very well but if Mitch Robinson and Quinten Lynch run into each other at full pelt I'm calling it a draw at the very least...

It's a significant difference.

I still think we are a 30% chance. I'm really hoping the game against the Filth has taken something out of them.

I think we're on average 3cm and 3kg more likely to run faster than the Eagles.

It could be a good omen. Or could it be a bad omen??

Either way - welcome back mate!

That is quite a difference.

I think we're a great chance of winning if we can create space when moving the pill, aka breaking the press.

We flounder when we bomb entries to the forward line (eg hawthorn). We can pull apart anyone if we can kick to space when entering the forward line (eg Essendon*).

I think the backline will hold up well if Jamo can get through the game. Between he, Hendo and Laidler we can cover a three prong tall attack.

Setanta/T-bird vs Glass/McKenzie - as long as they bring the ball to ground our lads would have forced a draw in those matchups - which is totally dependent on the nature of the forward delivery. If Glass has time to get body contact with Setanta we're in trouble. I am yet to see a set of small backs who can reliably shut our blokes down if Jeffy and Eddie are hitting the ball at pace, with space to operate within.

The midfield battle will probably come down to how well our guys are able to rove to Nic Nat and Cox. No knock on Warnock, he was enormous last week, but these blokes are in a different class altogether than Essendon*. More to the point, we will need to both win and clear the stoppages quickly and get out into space ASAP so we don't get trapped into the 'bomb' entry we saw vs Hawthorn.

That for mine is the biggest challenge in front of us and will determine the outcome.

I am not factoring the Etihad result as a direct indicator towards Saturday. We had so many of our backmen down, and were shorthanded on the day. They were more locked in than us, which was evident on the day (to their credit). Obviously both teams are locked in this weekend. Gibbs is a very big loss, more for his composure under pressure than anything else, however the hurdle is not insurmountable. The reason we are playing this weekend is because many players have stood up when it their turn has come this year, and so i believe someone will accept the challenge this week.

A bit of rain around will further erode the significance of their height advantage and will create more stoppages. This plays directly into our biggest strength as the #1 clearance team in the league.

So after all that carry on, I think we'll come home with the chocolates, to the tune of 4 goals.

If Cox doesn't play it will be a big plus for our midfield, this is where the game will be won or lost.

Put it this way. We were absolutely shit house when we played them at Etihad and only got done by 6 goals.

Port Adelaide would have beaten us that day, yet we only lost by 6 goals.

The Blues are good enough to roll the Eagles.

Stick it right up them!

Disappointed that Lucas has missed out, but at least we're thinking about making them work for their marks inside 50 and their receives outside the 'bubble'.

They struggle containing small forwards. It is their biggest weakness.

Thankfully, we do OK in this area..

Blues by plenty!!

This.

He's not the skipper, but he's certainly their main leader.

The big bastard has a knack of taking marks at crucial times as well.

Me too - his run and carry would have been a real bonus at Subi.
