In case some of you missed it, the Club are going to send a Certificate Of Appreciation to every volunteer. The phone call could have been handled better for sure. I agree with grro as to what a good reward for service would be.
Reading through the posts though, I don't think I would lose my emotional connection to the club, as that connection lives underneath the personnel that move through the offices.
Good luck, and all strength for the coming months Freddy47.
I get a certificate of appreciation for being a member and not doing much else each year.
21 years full time service pro bono to a football club is nothing short of extraordinary. Every year at work, I look at my volunteer leave and try to find windows of opportunity to use it at the club. Every year I find myself wanting, as the time just isn't there.
How you fit those 21 years in, is something that deserves to be appreciated, admired and put on a pedastal for those like us who should do more for the club, but for whatever reason don't.
Instead, without any disrespect intended to Freddy here. I fully expect a badly laser printed certificate that involves a misspelt surname congratulating him on his one year of junior membership, with an offer of 5% off at the Carlton Shop.
And whilst it is what it is, a slap in the face to someone who clearly deserves more. To me, I see it as an opportunity to find better ways to spend that volunteer leave when I get an opportunity.
