Well here is the latest news on Setanta's de-listing, you know, he getting dumped, he's a problem, no respect, too much chirping, so on etc etc

AUSTRALIAN RULES Carlton offer Setanta new deal
CORK superstar Setanta O‘hAilpin has been offered a two-year senior contract, and a significant pay rise, by Australian Rules football club Carlton. Setanta's manager Gerard Sholly - the Australian regarded as the leading authority in recruiting Irish players to the Australian Football League (AFL), and who will receive a large chunk of Setanta's wages is presiding over negotiations on the 2003 All-Star's behalf.

The new deal will not be signed until after the conclusion of the VFL - a competition for senior reserve squads - season later this month, but Sholly is delighted that Setanta's efforts, as an international rookie, in the past two years have been recognised and is confident he will agree terms.

As a rookie listed player the 2003 Rebels All-Star receives a minimum wage of around $17,000 (AUD) per season plus $250 per game. On the senior list he will receive a minimum of $39,000 per season and match payments of $2500 per game.

Peace out,
respect!

Congrats Setanta.

Well done BB on your info.

Think that sauce should be chucked out now.
It's a little off.

according to:

http://breakingnews.iol.ie/sport/story. ... 778z&t=gaa

"Former Cork hurler Setanta O'hAilpín is set to sign a contract that will keep him in Aussie Rules football for another two seasons.

The 22-year-old, currently based in Melbourne with the Carlton club, has been offered a new two-year senior contract with the Blues - one which includes a significant pay rise."

Hope he hangs in there and doesnt head back to Ireland! Obviously the Blues can still see a little green light at the end of the tunnel for him - sensational and given the way Keneally played on the weekend, our boys got to be worth a go!

Setanta was never going to leave, anyone who saw his game on Sunday will understand the type of player and person he is. Determined, never ever gives up ( on Sunday he kept peserving even when he couldn't make the ball stick when trying to mark, ended kicking a brilliant goal) and a true competitor.

His never say die attitude is desperatly needed in the senior team.

yeah you've got to admire his second and third efforts ...we realy need players with his desire and courage.
His marking and decision making still need work but there is a lot to like

I think the author's just looked up the pay book on the wages. International Rookies aren't paid in the same way as normal Rookies. They can settle terms with the club however the two see fit which takes into account the costs of relocating etc.

If Setanta receives a first year player's basic salary next year then he'll be taking a pay cut from what I understand.
