Working in a call centre in 99, we had scrolling display boards that showed the staff how many calls were in the queue. I persuaded the centre manager to change the message to BYE BYE BOMBERS on the Monday after…

Also got fond memories of lapping up every newspaper article on the game in the days that followed. My favorite was a snippet from geoff Maclure in The Age: apparently after we'd beaten WCE in the semi, Sheeds was standing under a tree in the MCG carpark making cut throat gestures at Kevin Hall as he made his way to his car...

99 Prelim of course.
Easily the loudest most heart stopping game I've ever been to.
Will never forget the traffic directing bloke standing on top of Richmond Station.
I think he may have been a neutral supporter of the game, but he was giving all the Essendon* supporters these small little sniping digs.
One Essendon* supporter got so agry with him he started hurling abuse at him about his weight and even tried to climb up on to the roof to have it out with him.
Very funny.

One final that no one has mentioned yet is the Adelaide final of 2001.
No one gave us a chance given our form coming into the match and everyone was on Adelaide because they thought they'd do it for Jarman.
I remember Jimmy Plunkett carving it up that day and Andy McLeod given the mother of all hidings from either Hulme or Franga.

Was a great match that one.

Pity about the week after...

I think there were better Carlton grand final wins - 1970/72 and 82 in particular - but the match that i keep going back to was the 1987 grand final win.

That victory meant a lot to me - especially after witnessing the 86 grand final flogging. That match had some great goals in it -

Meldrum's - where he bumped a Hawk / he fell over/ Meldrum ran on to pick up and pass perfectly to Sticks.

Bradley - two great Bradley goals in this match where he dodged tacklers. The third was an open run into goal. Just some really top notch goals in this match - much underrated.

(If we are discussing individual finals moments then anything involving Wayne Harmes - including 82 qualifying - would make my list of top moments)

1986 Semi Final at VFL Park against the Dawks was a good win against the odds - Dawks were outrageous favorites. Fraser Murphy starred, Johnno, Sticks, English, Harmesy were solid.

1999 prelim would have to be the best, for all reasons already mentioned.

The blistering first half of the 1995 GF. I remember getting up at half time and just being stunned by how dominant the Blues were. I don't remember too many games when it just seemed that ALL players were up at the same time.

I can't think of any other term but shell shocked to describe the cats at half time.

Ruthless, professional - a machine designed, purpose built for just one task and to see it unleashed was almost unbelievable.

I remember thinking how good Diesel was and wondering if it was possible for us to play any better.

They were everything we're currently not.

Now that was the true meaning of "shock and awe". Geelong must have headed back down the road and wondered if they were capable of winning a chook raffle.

What a pity Hickmont never got to play in a premiership side.

Boy we were flying then, really flying.

Ruthless. That's what we have to be again. Ruthless and deliberate.

I thought the Harmes tap might have scored a guernsey. And did anyone here witness the "Jesaleunko! You beauty!" moment with their own eyes?

Imagine taking a speccie like that in a grand final of all matches!

81 second semi I reckon it was..Bosustow's smother on the boundary line then freakish goal over his shoulder out at Waverley...best goal I have ever seen, the guy is a tool, but one of the great entertainers!!!

Damn it man, you pinched mine :(

'82 GF a young fresh faced little fella in the crowd. Blond, bowl haircut bucked teeth totally focused on the Blues. I got about 10 seconds of airtime - lucky I wasn't pickin the schnoz.

Kouta - '99 Prelim
Deisel in '95
Johnno in '82

Can't remember that much of '87 as it was too hot and we were too p1ssed. I can remember one of our group peeing in the planter boxes outside the Hilton in front of thousands of cheering blues fans.

How can you decide the greatest moment - we've been very lucky :) let's not rest until we get back to the top  2nd 3rd or 4th will not do!!

Yes; we were there and it's all a blur now; but I'll never forget Jezza's goal he kicked around his body on his left foot that tumbled and tumbled and tumbled through for a goal....when that went thru we all went crazy kissing and hugging total strangers....unforgettable.

As a Carlton supporter I was born at the right time. Since I first became a member as a 7 year old in 1968 I have seen 8 premierships (love saying that to my Filth supporting mates  ).

My favourite finals moment was in the 1970 GF, I was in the stand behind the goals when Jezza picked up the ball in the centre and kicked the goal that put us 11 points up with only a minute left. The attendant near me was a Filth supporter and took great delight in telling me at half-time that me and my dad should leave now. Jezza kicked the ball about 100 metres :) and I can remember turning around to the ashen faced attendant and "nah nah-ing" like only a snotty-nosed 9 year old can. :-D :-D :-D

P.S. I loooove watching the 99 prelim and esp. THAT tackle but I cannot ever put it up against a Premiership

1979 for me.

That was the first Grand Final (although I was alive for 70 and 72 it's not quite the same from age 0-2) where I spent the finals series anticipating what was to come and had it actually come true.

It's hard to believe but in retrospect that side that won 3 in 4 years probably underachieved. Considering the talent it was probably only internal club bickering and Carlton United Breweries that stopped them winning one or two more (earlier rather than later).

As an aside - Kismet and I recently got hold of the ABC footage of the tap and sat down with a Collingwood supporter and ran it through a few times frame by frame to settle the debate once and for all. The ABC's footage is rarely seen but it's from the perfect angle and it doesn't cut away at the crucial moment like the Channel 7 footage.

The ball was definitely in - even our Collingwood friend had to agree.

Not sure whether that's a good thing or not...

I've always loved the 99 prelim, but my fave final is of course the 95 grand final because at 3 quarter time, my Dad and I left for Optus Oval and celebrated all night with the boys and had a blast. I was 8.

i've seen the ABC footage too and i agree ... and it's definitely a GOOD thing

for those of us old enough to remember, there was a strike that day by channel 7's cameramen. rather than negotiate with the striking guys, channel 7 brought in a bunch of inexperienced people (scabs??!!) ... which is the reason why the footage of THE MOST INSPIRATIONAL PIECE OF PLAY EVER is so shite!! it's also the reason why the ABC footage of that MAGNIFICENT piece of play is the only one worth viewing.

i went to every game that year and as far as i'm concerned it remains the greatest season by carlton i've seen (3 losses by accumulated total of 29 points). to be honest, i was a little disappointed with our GF performance, johnno and harmsey notwithstanding .... but hey, i'm a spoilt bastard!!!!

I have been very fortunate and grateful to see every Blues flag since 1968. It hasn't been easy or cheap and sometimes I have paid way over the odds but if we're there then I get there somehow. I must say over the years there have also been some devastating losses

Along the way there have been a few down periods where we started to rebuild and ropped won the ladder never as bad as the last couple of years but then again the ALF/VFL have continually changed the rules to avoid any team or player dominating the competition for too long.

There have been so many moments to make us cheer and some including those where I would have liked to jump the fence and throttle a couple of opposition players over the years.

Most of you wouldn't realise how big a thing it was at the time to lure/steal Barassi from the Demons in 1965. I even remember the Ron Barrassi special plastic football boots that were all the rage at the time.

The 68 flag was very good for seeing a young Walls Crosswell etc. beating the Bummers with the biggest name in football being our imported coach.

The comeback after half time against the Pies was just sensational in 1970. It was practically unheard of back then for a team to be so far behind and then come back and win. No interchange and once a player went to the bench he couldn't come back on to the ground.

Was there for Jezza's mark, to see Buzz deliver on his boasts and also to see SOS take that screamer against the Pies at the G.

Just all great memories and now is the time for a new generation to start delivering their own memories.

So many memories...
First GF I remember was the '68 GF with Crosswell starring and listening to the urbane Dick Mason on ABC Radio.

72 my first live GF - Big Nick kicked 8, Wallsy kicked 8 and I drank about 3 of those HUGE Carlton Draft cans and survived Bay 13 along with about 10 mates of my school footy team. Not bad for a naive 17yo Tassie lad.

Harmesy's tap - it is one of those where were you watching when.....
Plus all the other finals since then.
Go Blues

hated 79 (until it was all over) cos we were so far the better side and yet all day it just never felt like we had clicked - reckon we almost played our worst game that day and in my guts was this horrible feeling that the world always seeks balance and 70 loomed large - thank goodness for the Harmsey moment and Sheldon is a minor God just cos he was there and the goals were there and not everything reaches a balance - or it does but the cycles are far bigger than our lives!

Last quarter of the 95 GF, never felt so relaxed and happy at the footy. All the misery of 93 and 94 was washed away.

Argueably the best recent finals memory would have to the 99 prelim. In that game could it of gotten any better. A one point win angainst the hot favourate and the most hated team in Essendon*. I remeber the odds in that match Ess was like 1-1.20 and Carl was 1-5... Looking back now its been 6 years how depressing to see us like this.
