No problem. If Lance left, I'd wish him the best and hope that he got the best out of himself. Considering he seems to have lost his place in our forward line, I don't think he'll be getting the best out of himself at Carlton under Pagan. If he stays we'll just have to see how he goes and hope for the best.

Isn't Riewoldt the highest paid player in the AFL?

A best clubman award has nothing to do with playing ability and everything to do with attitude, committment and strength of character. It's to do with the intangible elements an individual brings to a club, which lifts those around the club to higher levels and greater pursuits. Yes, the captain should also do this, but if the captain is also the best clubman, then why can't he win the award?

Most of what people have been arguing here has been circular, as most arguements are. It's all a bit of a chicken and egg situation. For any relationship to work you need compromise. The AFLPA has helped strengthen players' positions so the Clubs don't completely rule with an iron fist. Business is business. Loyalty has a place in business, but it is constantly perched on the precipice and could plummet into obscurity with only the slightest of nudges. Football is business, it's no longer sport.

I don't begrudge Kouta for winning it, nor do I think that he is not deserving. However, rather than further decorate a player with an award he really wouldn't miss, I just feel that this is an excellent opportunity to highlight 'another' example to follow. I'd be interested to know how many 'Best Clubman' awards James Hird, Michael Voss and Nathan Buckley have in the trophy cabinet from late in their career. Look, good luck to Kouta, but I think the award would have had more value going to a percieved 'future' leader who demostrates all of those traits you've mentioned above. For mine, the captain should be selecting, not collecting.

Las was predomanently a CHB in his junior days.

I can't see why he can't fill that role for us in the future.

I think that he would be found out for lack of pace.

Clubs would exploit him. He is excellent at zoning off his man and filling gaps, helping out.. But the opposition would be up with this trick. They wized up to Jason Cloke being the unopposed third man in the contest, so they will Whitnall.

And he hasn't the ticker to go all day with a Barry Hall, Tredrea or Brown. They'd carve him up, imo.

He has done well down there recently, but I don't see a permanent future for Lance down back.

Besides, I think that Thornton is the logical choice as our CHB.. We need to either nurture or obtain some tall backmen to help him out.

But i'm more than willing to eat humble pie if Lance stays and excells down there. I hope he does.

Thats figuratively speaking.. he doesnt cost Stkilda 1 million dollars...

Kouta is the million dollar man....

There was speculation next year he was down after his pay cut 2 years ago... but he isnt.. its another push back of his wages.

Yes we still have the worlds most expensive footballer in the league...

Costing the club an arm and a leg... and 3 300k per annum players..
