A very worthy winner - well done Kouta.

He may not be able to run and jump as well as he once did but there is no-one better in close. I won't hold my breath but maybe this might cause one of our contributors to rethink labelling him a parasite.

Just a question for you...

Would Kouta have gone on next year if he was to get 200k to play...???

Let's not get ridiculous, people.

Well done Kouta.

I was one who thought your career was finished. You have definately been our most consistant performer this year. Nothing flashy, certainly not the Kouta of old, but it was great to see you back in decent form again.

Spot on Synbad. Kouta may have got more possessions this year. BUT WHAT DID HE DO WITH THEM ? Did he chase and tackle ? NO. He just simply lacks passion. When we lost our last game at Optus Oval, did he give a shit, did he shed a tear like most of us supporters did, like Fev did, like Stevens did. Again NO................... I rest my case. It is fruitless trying to convince some of you....................

Would Dennis Pagan coach Carlton for 200k a year? Of course not he's in it for the money more than any player on our list.

Kouta was a great champion of the club ... he is the kind of blkoke youd want your daughter to marry.. he would be a terrific friend if he allowed you to get close enough .. but he is no captain for us today..and if he was not on a huge contract wouldnt bother even playing in 2006.

When we picked up Hamill he was skinny kid with very limited ability. ,, from a broken family environment and unable to see himself doing anything with his life as hestruggled with schooling and would tell Parkin and Sticks .. if he didnt make a success of football he doesnt know what he would do with his life....(according to club sources)..

...the club told him he had to build himself up if he had a slight chance of ever making it as a footballer.
To enter the club you had to ring the bell.. sign in and you can use the gym.
Kernahan was Hamills mentor.. he took Hamill under his wing and encouraged him ... spoke to him... shared time with him...
At the end of the season when Parkin looked at the 'sign ins' Hamill had hardly missed a day in the shitty gym upstairs from the rooms.
He was the only player that spent every day of the week.. every week of the year in improving himself... Sticks would talk to him about what a kid would need to do to make a name for himself.. Hamill listened to everything and went about his business transforming his average ability and skinny body into what he is today.. (Forget about him leaving us for money.. he was money driven as his best mate a guy named Steve was some kind of financial bloke )

Anyway when push came to shove and he left for StKilda.. he on his own admission cried after his first day there... he told Carlton people "I felt like packing it in!!!"....
What he did want to do is leave no stone unturned to make sure that he gave himself every opportunity his new club improved so when he met the new kids.. ')Riewoldt and Kosi).. he put his hand up as a mentor...He wanted to give those kids what Sticks gave him at Carlton...

So even to this day Riewoldt/ Kosi and everyone else at StKilda put their hands up and take the kids under their wing.. just like Sticks took Hamill.. and Hamill took Riewoldt...

So in effect Sticks has influenced StKilda and his spirit has disappeared from our club.

Today if you ever make StKilda training youllk find the players stay out there till its dark as a GROUP.. Hamill talking to the kids and Harvey kicking 100 balls... and so on..
Theyre all having a good time bonding and joking around....

On the other hand our senior players run up the tunnel at the end of training so fast if youre not watching them closely youd have think they just vanished into thin air...
If youre a regular bone fide player at Carlton you have no business being out there once official training has finished.

I remember reading an article about Arkemanis kicking hundreds of balls on his own each day.... often alone.

Arkemanis to me is the best kick of a football in the league...

He doesnt have to continue kicking hundreds of footballs a day in a park on his own....(well to a mate who kicks them back.. but doesnt rely on his team mates having to come along with him to do it)

Thats what were lacking......

Blokes that care about their footy

A question for you.. demand and supply...

Who is more likely to receive their current wages elsewhere... Pagan or Kouta???
I cant understand how people in here compare oranges with bananas...

No wonder the club is [REDACTED].. weve lost all sense of reality.. our reality...

Last year clubs wanted Denis.. noone would touch Kouta with a 50 foot pole...

Thats right Kouta should not be so money hungry and be more like Hamill who is in it for the love of his club.
What thanks did Hamill give Sticks? Took his jumper then wiped his arse with it.

Yep he is money hungry just like Kouta/Campo/Lance .. and every Carlton player under big Jacks culture revolution of excesses..... the difference is he tries harder to help around the place.. same as when he plays...trains... leads..

Everything Hamill does is 110%... even when going for the dosh...

Our blokes only give 110% when it comes to player contract negotiations...

What is this I hear over at CSC that when John Nicholls was giving his rev up speech at the B+F the other night, Fev said to someone quietly "Why doesn't the old prick just shut up"

Surely this isn't true?

Dunno... but that kind of attitude would have me getting Fev to scrub the toilets down till theyre spotless in the Pratt stand for starters.

Back to our problem...

We have evolved into a club with a culture where its all about the individual....
Thats why ive been calling for heads for the last couple of years... because it rubs off on the ones coming through....

There is noone there to bring them into line because the ones that should be bringing them into line dont care.. they only want their pay cheques...

Players are forced to go to functions...(Usually there are no players present)
They wont be at the AGM...

They dont help around the club....there is no 'Come meet a player night'

Its becoming so the players dont think its about the club .. and its about the team....

Its not about the team.. cos the team changes from week to week.. and year to year.. its about us!!!!!

They have to get it into perspective... theyre getting that only because of us... no us???? no money...

Synbad i understand what you're saying , and its tragic that we don't seem to have "the Sticks Factor" types around the club anymore.

My question however would be who is the closest thing we have to this type of committment ?Who might possess "the sticks factor "

As much as Lance is talked about in trade discussions, could he considered close ? What about Lappin. I'm surprised and disappointed that (if ) Campo never inherited this mentality . And is Stevo our only hope ??

How would you Rate Fev, Stevo, and Lance with the young lads. ? I'd be very interested to know what your views on Stevo are and compare him with Fev. Reason being, is to me it seems they get along quite well and as such i'm surprised that they couldn't share similar qualities.

Do you think that Fev could be the type of player that if given a leadership role by the club be it Vice Captain ( to Stevo ) he might just lead and possibly help take us forward.

I'm being serious about Fev. ( Serious enough to ask the question ) something just tells me that maybe what Fev needs is to have his entire football credibility put on the line to be judged.

By giving him a leadership role we effectively put it to him. And the onus is on Fev to prove to the entire football world what he is made of.
Is Fev made of the stuff that makes great players , or is he a disposable commodity ??

I wish i knew , and am guessing others wished also.

What do you think mate ?? Or what does anyone else think. ( try to be serious also :-D )

Fev is a joker like Brownless, good player but will never be a captain.

Tractorboy.. i dont know if Fev Stevens etc are serious leadership role models BUT.... you dont know which rock a leader might by hiding under just needing the opportunity to pop up.
Most of the time its obvious...
Ive been surprised with where i have found traits of leadership in people.
Sometimes it needs to be encouraged out...

Whatever the situation is or might be.. we definitely know we dont have it at the top right now...

I believe comfort can dull leadership.

I believe comfort is a big factor to why our blokes are what they are.

Look at Lance and the rocket up his arse..... 4 years of nothingness with a contract for a 20 year old .. early success ... and complacency set in.

One reason why i BELIEVE Stevens will be a good captain is because there is no way a guy can leave a club to go to a shit club... a year before that club wins a premiershipm and it can rest easy with your mindset...

NO WAY!!!!

no matter how much money you werre paid.. youd want to try and do your best to turn around the club as much as you can and give yourself every opportunity to have a crack at it on day...

Much like Hamill....
