I think Kouta should step down and hand it over to Stevo like Hird is going to do for Lloyd. Although I don't think Hird should be allowed to step down, he should have it till he retires.

Playing for less money next year to help the club rebuild to.. and playing at a higher standard to Kouta...

Look the clubs problem is there is no obvious leader coming through.. and sometimes opportunity creates ....

if Kouta is still captain next year he wont be the year after.. so its vital the club tries something different sooner rather than later.. because we need to move forward and need to establish whats what as soon as possible..

Is Stevens what we need???
I want to find out the answer to that question sooner... not later...

I ope the club can bite the bullet and show some leadership themselves ...

I was under the impression Stevo was marked down to take over next year. Maybe the club has decided to go with Kouta because of all the troubles with Lance, Campo and Lappin. They want to keep something constant with all the troubles with the leaders contracts.

They feel they have to be compensated to wear the famous all dark navy blue...!!!!

We dont need them... no matter what they think... !!!!

Its not like were going to go further down the ladder without Campo and Lappin if they want 400k a year x 3 years to stay...

Or if Kouta isnt Captain....

Im sick of players holding the club to ransom...

You can do that when theres alot to lose...!!!.. fear dictates that...

But we dont have alot to lose right now.. and should be in complete rebuild mode...

Yes We do rebuild at Carlton (when were forced to)... and that changes the rules...

If it's even remotely true that the club is even contemplating keeping the captaincy with Kouta as a cost-control measure, then that is just about the saddest and most frightening thing I've ever heard about the CFC.

Money. It's been great for football, hasn't it?

Look .. its good for footy if youre on the right side of it...

I told some of our Irish friends that theyre better off supporting their sporting association in keeping their games amateur...

Their suburban / town/ village clubs would disappear overnight if they didnt...

Thats why football will eventually die away to soccer.. the country cant sustain the money needed and the players want.. as well as run a club.. organise facilities... etc etc....

The problem with sport is youre manufacturing nothing more than entertainment and untangible stuff..

Its hard to keep it in check...and its easy to allow it to run away from you....

youre chasing a dream...

If this IS a cost-saving marketing decision ( ), perhaps they could make Kouta and Stevens JOINT captains... so the "prints" aren't wrong but we introduce Stevens to the full-time job.

Kouta - Figurehead captain
Stevens - Operational captain

sounds doable

Actually, Synbad's point about having a captain the young list can relate to and grow with is very well made. Stevens seems the obvious candidate.

I hear, though, that Stevens is a bit eccentric and not overly social either. Is that right? Perhaps the club have decided that he's not that sort of character either, and they're waiting for a season for someone like Thornton....? maybe???

But I'd give it to Stevens. Whitnall staying I won't lose sleep over, but I'd prefer a good trade. Campo remaining will be a real loss for the side. I wish John Nicholls at the B&F had made his "put the club first gents" speech, but added "'cept you Campo.... be as selfish as you like so they get rid of you"

Kouta I worry about... what position will he play that actually benefits the side next year. One worry RE Kouta is he seems to have lost a lot of versatility. If he could be a marking option at full-forward/strong defender (ala Chris Grant) for a season, and occasionally muscle around the packs then I'd be all for keeping him. If he's just sitting on the bench or going in the middle and having his man play off him... its a concern.

no its not the end of the world verbs its just a continuation of an old one...

Bit of forward thinking might just help the club.
