Just one other thing.....

Lance was shopped around last year but nobody wanted him....!!!

Oh and another thing.. ive said they are not what we need for the lastr couple of years and have also stated that their contracts are killing us...

You on the other hand would give them an increase... (Intellectual exercise thread).. well maybe not an increase but Campo on 400k and Lance on the same as Fev....

Yes one day i will be right.....right about what???
That i dont want them at the club???

Or that Lance is trade bait again????(Like last year).....

BM.. you have a mighty big spade there...

Correction, Lance was shopped around for a first round trade pick and no one wanted him.

The other thing was his salary.... clubs dont like to take slow players and fork out 550k ....

Noone would have taken him for free on that money cos noone can fit him in... we offered to pay all but 300k...

If you were recruiting for WB or the Cats, what would you offer Synbad?

The Doggies have enough kids and need to turn the ship around...they can offer us more and Lance more than he is worth to most clubs.
WC cant IMO cos they dont have the room ....

In my opinion Bullies are a viable proposition for Lance....and from what i hear around the 'grapevine' he is happy with what they are offering...

Yeah he might want the same from us but i doubt it will happen.....

Lance will be better than Rawlings for the Doggies but he is a luxury we cannot afford IMO.

This is where we will have to agree to disagree. Our 2nd and 3rd tier players have been around for approximately 4 years. Wiggins and Sporn came to us in the 2000 I believe. If we have to continue to wait for such players including Davies, Bannister, Johnson and Clarke Sporn, Prender to take the next step up we will continue to stagnate down the bottom. They have been given opportunities but have failed to grasp it albeit with poor leadership from the senior players.

The majority of these players will be delisted. I want the newer signings to be given those senior births in order to accelerate their development regardless of form. I agree that guys like Russell and Hartlett's form in the VFL may not warrant it but such is the poor standard of VFL football at the moment, exposure limited to the VFL will not prepare them adequately for the required standard in the AFL.

You just have to watch the last few VFL games featuring the Bullants to see the poor kicking, decision making, skill errors. Would love to see Russell run off the half back line in the seniors and hopefully help him overcome his "soft" tag. I want to see Hartlett play in the backline and add some height and aggression. Holding on to Campo and Digby will deprive these two of such opportunities. If it means finishing last next year, so be it. These youngsters will repay our faith in the years to come.

Let's make the hard decisions now before we cultivate a culture of mediocrity.

It’s a difference of opinion and I can see your point.

I don’t think however you can get rid of 2/3 of your best 6 players, de-list the middle tier and get a group of kids together and throw them to the wolves.

It would be suicide on so many levels.

All these will drop

Performance

Sponsors
Attracting Future Players (Kosi is a prime example. Stated so in a 3AW interview)
Player’s confidence (IMO it had an influence on Livinston’s development playing full-back in the wooden spoon season. Had a good season the year before)

It has to be a mix of youth and experience. The balance can be in the youth side yes.

Not sure how Campo is compared to Morrell. One will finish top 5 in the B&F and the other will finish top 5 in the Bullants best and fairest. It’s hard to know who to believe when it come to Campo’s leadership. Denis Pagan, Jarrad Waite have said on the public record that he is a leader of the club and Jarrad mentions him as an influence on his developing career. On the other side you have rumors, perception, assumptions, personal opinions and the “inside informationâ€

Waite calls Campo a leader.???

which just goes to show how devoid of leadership we are... and how the kids have no idea what leadership is under this lot of footballers..
Seniority is leadership material at Carlton these days...

Throwaway line by Tony Shaw on AW this afternoon about Campo apparently selling his house in Melbourne.

This could mean...

He can't be bothered finishing the renovations

He'll default on the mortgage as he was given the loan based on an annual income of $600k

He's moving to Adelaide

He needs a bigger kitchen.

It could be all of the above...

This option wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was the reason, given the new utensils he helped bring to the club.

I doubt campo will go anywhere ....

Look its sad talking about him like this but he has placed too much importance on himself.
He has been on far too much money .. doing far too little... now he wants far too much money again to do far too little.

You just know he wont do the hard yards ... cos he has never done them.

Its important that players coming through dont have that culture rubbing off on them....

An example is Teague has yet to sign his new contract... and the word is he wants more than were prepared to pay... Like someone said to me a couple of days ago.. he should be concentrating on cementing his spot...

This bullshit with contracts is a result of players that do sweet FA... asking or have received uge contracts in the past.. its s chain reaction.
Kouta gets a mill.. so Campo wants too much... Campo wants too much so Lance wants too much... they want too much so when Houla comes up for renegotiation he says" i want more or im leaving".... .. Lappin sees Houla on a heap.. and hes on around 200k.. so he wants more.....then other young kids are up....theyre thinking Houla Campo Lance do F.A.. im going for more too... and it just keeps on keeping on....

We cant afford it!!!!!

Get rid of a few of them.. and ask who else wants more money???...

You have to stem the tide somehow...
Fancy Teague asking for more dosh on the back of one good year.....

Nothing to do with unions just with overinflated self worth equating to overpriced wages for the few and not spread across the board...

Please save us from your right wing ideological baggage Josh. Each player is trying to maximise their wealth by shopping around through their agents before signing contracts. After all it is their livelihood. Unions what unions? What you are seeing is the free market at play very much what Howard has in mind by trying to do away with collective bargining via AWAs.

The players have every right to put the welfare of their familieis first. On the other hand Carlton has every right to put its own interests first and shop players around where it feels they have overpriced themselves like Campo.

Unfortunately for Carlton it should have done so whilst they were at their prime. We are now paying th price with Kouta and Campo. Don't blame the players. The past administration have a lot to answer for. Now it's time for making the hard decisions and setting the tone for future contract negotiations.

I think you'll find most of those guys had bigger offers from other clubs but chose to stay at Carlton for less.
