Former AFL player Brett Backwell on Tuesday had a finger amputated in an effort to prolong his Australian Rules career.

He has been troubled by pain and lack of movement in his left ring finger since breaking it in 2002 and had the finger removed at Adelaide's Wakefield Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Backwell played 18 games for Carlton between 1999 and 2001 and has become a key player at SANFL side Glenelg, but decided to have the operation because of how the problem had affected his ability to handle the ball effectively

Similar to Daniel Chick's situation.

I say get him back to Carlton - he obviously is willing to sacrifice anything to play which would make a nice change.

He trained with Carlton for the pre season when we had the huge clean out a few years ago.

If he didn't get picked up then, he won't get picked up now.

If we cant get all of him, can we just get selected parts?? Can you have fractions on the player list?

What if we dould do an AFL Frankenstein at Carlton. Take Lance's Body, slip into it Houla's Heart, stick Fev's head on top.

We could then teach the player to have Karl Norman's attitude, Clarke's kicking, Setanta's experience, Davies self control, Livo's development and Kouta's youth.
