Quote:
CARLTON'S Matthew Lappin may be the first high-profile casualty of the trade period as talks began to gather steam yesterday.

Lappin's manager, Ron Joseph, yesterday said the Blues had told the half-back they would not be offering him a new deal until after the coming trade period.

Several months ago, the two parties had agreed to defer talks on a new contract until the end of the season, but Joseph indicated the new stance by the club had pushed the chance of a deal back further.

Joseph said yesterday that the message he took from Carlton was that Lappin should look for a new club. "I had a phone call the other day from (football operations general manager Grant) Williams, who was just confirming that they weren't prepared to put any offer at all to Matthew and they would see what went on during the trade period," Joseph said.

"So one assumes that Carlton are telling us that Matthew's expendable and if you can get something better somewhere else that's what he should do — that's the interpretation I'd put on that."

Winning the spoon might have saved us. No quick fixes and false dawns now. Finally some balls to tell players to sign or else.

That article is an absolute crock of sh.......

The Hawks getting kudos for trading Rawlings and Thompson????

Rawlings went to WB for nothing. Yep, great trade that one.

Thompson went to Kangaroos for - pick 26. Used by Hawks on Matt Little.
And they are probably still payoing Thompsons salary.

Thats it. So for this they are 'showing us the way"??? Give me a break.

Lappin talks tough on SEN

His general comments were:-

1. Wants 3 year deal....not negotiable by the sounds of things...will walk
if he doesn't get it.

2. Not in the top 6 paid players. Believes he should be paid more coming
off an all australian season the year before. Has put his all into the club
and feels he should be rewarded

3. Sticks told him he is wanted but will have to wait after the trade week

4. His manager said that he is able to get a better deal. He fully trusts in
his manager

5. He could of gone to Richmond for more but knocked it back

6. Feels a bit of anger and disappointment at situation but can see the
club's side as well

7. No one is safe. Even Fevola as the newspapers have reported

8. His wife is due soon

9. Mood around the club is as good as it can be considering ladder
position and contract talks

BTW All talk back callers wanted him to stay. A couple said they wouldn't
re-new their membership if CFC didn't sign him up (calls were probably
screened)..It's a delicate situation. I think he's been a great servant for
the club. Hopefully they can work out a deal

Very tenuous grip on it by Jake Niall. While we've been at the bottom for four years as rightly pointed out he may have recollected we didn't have much fun during a few of those drafts.

And I'd like to see them get Crawford away in a trade and happily pay the McKernan half of his salary. Sure Jake.

Also forgot to mention picking up Beauy under the youth policy et al. Nathan thompson would've left or simply curled up in bed rocking gently.

Lazy stuff Jake.

Lappin will be the unfortunate one from this years wash up.
got paid less because blokes like Kouta Campo and Lance got the lions share...
We cant afford to get sentimental...

If Lappo wont stay for 2 years he has to go..

No its not...

We always feel sorry for players.

2 years is enough.... if he is good enough for a 3rd he will get a 3rd...
Why should anyone take up a spot on the list if theyre not good enough??

the club has made him a good and fair offer for 2 years..

I don't think it's disgraceful, SB. It's sad in that Matty has been a great player for us and awesome to watch, but the fact remains, you can't expect 3 year deals post 30YO. He got 3 last time and he's been a victim of circumstance in the dark days of the club.

Joseph wants these deals for Lappin and Grant and will battle with both. There's too much evidence that these deals bite you on the arse over time.

We should never have given Mckernan a 3 year deal for example  .

Synbad just so as per normal you don't put words in my mouth;

I would give Campo 2 years @ 300K, yes.
I would give Whits 3 years @ 350K yes.
I would give Lappin 3 years, yes. Lappin deserves it for being one of our better perfomed. Lappin's body is holding up well and his 3rd year is a performance based. Lappin has been a great servent of the club, turned down bigger offers previously, took pay cuts and has never gone against the grain. Doesn't deserve this.

Surrey.... the reason why Lappin was looking for a bigger contract around then is because blokes like Kouta Campo Lance were sucking up all the money.....

Now you want more people sucking up the $$$$$$$....

Lance wont stay for 350k ... Surrey...

Noone wants Campo so why should we be the idiots to sign him up for 300x 2????

What are you on???

Am i putting words in your mouth????

Now you've lost me, surrey.

Campo = 2 years @ $180K (No one else wants him and there's a reason for that)
Lance = 2 years @ $380K
Skinny = 2 years @ $290K
