Interesting, you've had some good posts recently Psych. I'm not completely against trading a first rounder for Boak, I suspect he'll end up at Geelong anyway. but I think Hampson is worth more than Toy. He's had 4-5 years of development and it would seem such a waste to throw all that away for a midfielder/flanker. Gold Coast have no bargaining power, Perhaps Bower and a second rounder? Bower isn't likely to get too many games for us barring some serious injuries. A developed defender and a second rounder for an unproven player such as Toy is fair for both parties.

They need mature bodies, maybe they will take players like Thornton, McLean, AJ & Bower?

Is it worth getting Toy & a second round for Hampson and Thornton?

Who knows but I hope we are looking at Toy seriously.

So do I, I hope we're looking at a lot of players.

Someone like Russell could interest Gold Coast, if they can get his body right. Thornton still provides us depth, he's a good marking tall and a more than handy defender. If the MC refuse to play him then that all goes out the window I suppose and a trade becomes the next best option for all parties involved. Doubt anyone would really be interested in AJ unfortunately, doesn't have any outstanding attributes that would attract other clubs.

Going back to the OP I'm not sure Hampson as a permanent key forward was persisted with for so long by design, but rather out of necessity.

Regardless of who our forwards are we too often kick in with no apparent structure or obvious plan. It's @#$%&! frustrating most of the time.

Most teams are able to use deoys and create space to advantage other teammates, we look like an U16s side more often than I am happy with.

With Cas emerging as a guy who can take contested marks and split packs. And compete in spot minutes in the ruck, imo he's more valuable than Cloke.

Neither of them are much chop at kicking, but I'd rather the younger kid who's been in our system.

We'd be better off saying no to Cloke, for a number of reasons, that he's shit being just one of them, and using the cash to chase a depth player like Troy Chaplin (I'm sure there's others too, he's just one that came to mind who I think is out of contract).

Is Thornton out of contract? If he is he can just pick up and leave to anyone that wants him as he'd be a free agent.

We could have the world's best VFL ruck combination next year.

If Carlton are serious it's time to move on Warnock or Hampson.

The club have them on contract so they will have to agree to the move.

We need to contract Casbault he is the real deal.

We should then recruit another rookie ruckman.

So in 2013

No. 1 Ruckman is Kruezer
Full Forward is Levi

Backup Ruckman is Warnock

Hampson traded for a genuine forward flank like Gunston or Darling type.

I am dead set against paying squillions for Cloke when we have prospects like Casboult and Mitchell. Not to mention Waite and Rowe who is yet to play.

We dont need half our slary cap gone on him. What we need is to make some hard decisions about the ruckmen we have and the 'fringe' players.

I really dont envy the people who make these decisions - as much as Thornton, Russell and Bower etc have frustrated me in the last year or two, I loathe to see their careers over. Must be a case of Stockholm Syndrome but geez I love the little shits... lol

Agree, but Warnock needs to be traded not Hampson.

If Casboult gets injured who would you prefer as your emergency FF, Warnock or Hampson (and there's not much between them as rucks).

Hampson must be our reserve ruck and reserve full forward. Warnock showed nothing when playing seniors this year. Why is he not back in the side now when he is fit? The answer is quite straight forward really. Because he is not good enough. Trade him.
