Its very Disturbing to learn that they Intend to Make Whitnall a back line player.... that would be the most incredible naive and poor decision made ever, and if it does occur, will prove that the carlton board and members have learnt nothing from their past mistakes.....

IF you intend to play whitnall down back, do us all a big favor and get rid of him.....

Thanks OR. Great insightful reading.

Interesting that Whitnall will probably be retained. Guess that means Fev's on the edge.

Cheers again for the info.

Here's a radical thought.

Maybe Wiggo, Sporn etc aren't that good.

Simon Wiggins is an interesting case...I believe he has gotten every bit out of himself, and that your comment about him not being that good is an apt one. However, just because he isnt good enough to make it at this level is not his fault...if Fevola had Wiggo's attitude and ability to apply himself, he would be better than Lloyd!!!! IMHO.

Keyser Soze –
apparently 5 quality players is via all means – ie. draft, psd & trade.

Clem –
specific mention of class of 2000 was made, ie Livo, Sporn & Wiggins – Livo has not delivered what the club expected (injuries have played a part), the others – very disappointed with where they are at – sounded like Sporn & Wiggins will struggle to maintain a position.

I didn’t get the impression that the club are stuck in the every man for themselves mentality. More so that they expect leaders (of any age) to rise to the top – I’m not sure whether this works or not but that seemed to be the approach.

I was unconvinced by 1 aspect of the discussion – which I probably would call the “egoâ€

[quote="Ockham's Razor"]I, along with a small group of others, had the privilege of spending 2 hours with a member of the Blues coaching staff earlier this week where a range of issues from this season were discussed, including players, drafting and leadership.

The following is a summary of what was discussed;

Scott Camporeale – the club is keen to retain him on the list. Will be at greatly reduced $

Matthew Lappin – clearly his worst year for the Blues, quote “coming out of contract is not a very good time to have your worst year ever, will not be offered 3 years.â€

Hi Shiek,

Whatever!

It was a closed group of supporters. A fair bit of honest feedback. If it isn't ultimatley true then so be it.

I'm not suggesting that what you reported was never said, I'm just wondering how indepth this person really went. Imagine if they had of given you the full story, it would have appeared in this thread wouldn't it ??

Great report OR... finally a balanced view.

Despite criticism of our senior players, Kouta, Lance, Campo and Lappo, they still made up most of our best players for the season. Livo, Sporn and Wiggo (bless their souls) can only dream of being in our top 10 players.

Thanks O.R.

Good to read, although agree with other poster re. the Russel comment, strange since they did give him a game.

Agree re. the comment about senior players being needed to teach the younger ones. Yes, they may not be the best leaders in the AFL at the moment but they're all we have and getting rid of them all would result in said beltings each week which would stifle the development of any up and coming talent.

This is something that the sailer boy and others have no comprehension of. Very naive.

re:russell - I agree with OR's statements - the few times that I've seen russell this year (mainly ABC telecasts) he has seemed a bit short of AFL standard. Not for a moment saying that he wont make it, but that he was nowhere near ready and showed less glimpses of real polish (as opposed to say blackwell, who admittedly I watch out more for because he is a f/s pick)

Not naive Teddy....just a different viewpoint.

Is bad leadership better than no leadership?

Mrs Caz - bad leadership by definition is no leadership. I suspect you are referring to 'weak' leadership, in which case yes it is better than none. Also, leadership can come in many different forms and what works for some might not work for others.

Some people are inspired by fire and brimstone, command and control leaders. Other people are inspired by those with a touch more humility and who let their actions/deeds speak for themselves. Those who can combine both elements become great leaders though more often than not, 'leaders' show a strong preference for one of the paths and may be weaker in the other. Unfortunately it seems that few people will accept that both forms of leadership are viable alternatives.

Leadership at the club probably isnt THAT bad, though we are clearly lacking in some areas and we lack that 'great' leader.

Yes 4th..."weak" leadership IMO is "bad" leadership... and I'm not convinced it is "better"...more like equal.

I agree with the rest of your post though. People do respond to different methods. I just haven't seen any positive response to the leadership that we have.
