How did our guys who got NRS nominations fare against others who did also, especially whoever it was who eventually won the NRS?

Deledio got 2 brownlow votes very late in the year and that was all IIRC.

That's OK then - $110,000 per vote is perfectly acceptable.

Noone in that top 5 is getting more than our blokes...

Thats my point!!!

Cant they see what they have given to the club over years and what others have given to their clubs and compare salaries?

mikkey.. the club will only fold is it continues to be a rabble to midladder club for a sustained period.

People can see a plan if they go youth..and stick by the club...
... keeping them is not a long term plan and will be of more detriment to the club.

Brock Mclean received 9 votes and Franklin and Griffen each received one vote.

Who are those people? Members? Well many may stick with the club - but what about sponsors, corporates etc? Last season after a 16 and 15 finish we struggled to attract sponsors and corporates - this season after last years improvement (and more FTA and Friday games) it was much better. I doubt the club can afford to stay on the bottom for a number of years - simply could either fold or be at the mercy of the AFL - which again could lead to things like merger or relocation.
I do agree with the re-building strategy, but the Board has to balance it with short term survival. And from what I can see we have not enough money to be "bold" short term - Hawthorn has a nice fat bank account from the Waverley sale - we don't. We have another substantial loss coming out of this year due to our poor performance on he field.

Sponsors want to see a plan in place.
A transparent rebuilding phase that will lead to future success.
More of the same creates more of the same.

Hawthorn were let off the hook beautifully this year.
They underachieved more than Carlton did but they attracted no heat.
Why is that?
They are percieved as having a rebuilding structure in place.

At a recent sponsors meeting, Michael Malouf got up and spruiked the benefits of drafting young talent.
He mentioned Marc Murphy and told the sponsors how he was a great talent and hoped that Carlton could aquire him.
He knows thats what they want to hear.
THey're not interested in the club maintaining the status quo.
People who succeed in business are often risk takers with an eye on future success.
Thats the type of organisation they want to be involved with.

This is the time to be courageous and hold our nerve.
