I would think the opposite is true.
Refusing to accept the CBF as a necessity means we will still be in a vulnerable position when talk of mergers/relocations starts.
Accept the help now and if you have a good plan/strategy, you will come out a strong club rather then one that is getting by, ala Richmond/St Kilda

Not accepting CBF money doesn't mean we'll not be in strong financial position in five years time. Collins and Malouf can come up with an as effective business plan as the one where the club's business plans are influenced by the AFL, without the AFL restrictions on club expenditure.
With CBF money Carlton would lose all perception that we're one of Melbourne's big four clubs, something we must hang onto if we don't want to be a prime target for a merger.

Vlad was on the radio this morning, no guessing what we're the two most important issues to 'his AFL' :?:

The west of Sydney and the Gold Coast.

I dont even know if we are eligible but if we were back in 2002. We could have had $3-4 mil in the kitty by now and we could have said we dont need it anymore. As it is we have a uphill battle to even break even, let alone catch the Pies, Dons and whoever else is ahead of us. Collingwood is probably 20 years away before we can match them financially unless something drastic happens cos we are so far behind it will be herculean to even get close.

Theres no more illusons 79V. We cant bluff our position anymore. If we are still in the red, we will be candiadates no matter how big we percieve ourselves to be

Because the AFL will run the club.
Do that, and you can kiss your club GOOD BYE.

Are they? Are they really that well financially off Synbad?
We might get back to this discussion in 5 years time and see if any of these are around and if so, in what shape or form.

Maybe you dont understand what it means to be carrying a 10 million dollar debt Surrey.....

Put some money into the player sponsorship.... you might be able to help....

Our perceptions of ourselves mean stuff all in the competitive environment of AFL clubs next to the perception of us the other AFL clubs will have if we accept CBF money, and more importantly the perceptions of Vlad & the AFL Commission will have of Carlton.

There is a chance the AFL will take a real hit in the court battle with Channel 7 over C7. It's going to cost the league a mint just to fight it (millions annually) and there could be a huge payout if the AFL is on the wrong side of the verdict.
Less money in the AFL coffers means less dividends _ or no increased dividends as hoped _ for clubs.
There's real concern about this among the battling clubs - which, god this hurts, includes us.

If there's a decision on that case in favour of Stokes and 7, say early next year, with all the appeals no damages will change hand for at least 3 years. But you're right Kenny it would be big, personally I think the AFL would trade off some of their stake holding in Telstra Dome instead of cash and Stokes would accept.

shit if we wrangle Bartel and Power, 1 in a trade(coz of PSD threat) and one in PSD
our midfieldn suddenly looks dangerous:

Midfield: Power (Gun) Bartel(Gun) Stevens(Gun) we just need Walker and Marc Murphy to come on. UNtil then we have koutato keep dishing it out.
Also if we snag a salopek, and obviously simmo and bentick are coming on too and Jordan Russel and little blackers.we could really abase our side around that midfield. if we snagged a YZe tooo.... i know ppl might say quick fix, but priority picks are going next year,a nad the game these days is won in the midfield I think.
