Spoke to mad dog a couple of years ago. Lets just say he is in no hurry to come back to Carlton.

Browny is making way too much money to come back to footy!

Brett Ratten was a B&F winner in a premiership year...everyone at MFC thought he was very good. If Murphy goes No.1 he'll be able to pass on sooooooooo much...similar player

As I've stated - get Earl back from WA for the talls development (setanta / batson / thornton / pick 4 / morrel / hartlett / deLuca / bryan / waite / raso)...

Peter Dean come on down....let's build a good young defence....offer a few picks to freo for Scott Thornton and that's a good start.

PJ where did Rehn end up? I really thought he would have been a great option as he could have been an assistant and ruck coach as well.

During last week Rehn signed with the Lions.

Yes.
Should be interesting when Sheedy retires.
All three of Harvey, O'Donnell and Wallis will be fighting like cats over who gets the job.
For mine, Harvey should have left last year when he had the chance as I feel he has missed the boat at Essendon* and O'Donnell will get the job.

Gez, good suggestion re: Colbert.

Sheedy will never retire.

They'll have to take him out the back and shoot him if they ever want to get rid of the man...

what about someone like John Blakey? Obviously has a good relationship with DP and was a no-frills get the job done type player. I'd be pretty keen on him if he is still in the system

Unless he was suggesting Colbert as a potential runner. It would be a little bit like having Lance Whitnall as your runner. You wouldn't get too many messages around to the boys! :P

Peter Dean was probably one of the most underated players to play for us.Was a superb player who was as hard at the ball and determined as any player i have seen at the Blues bar none. The exact qualities required to make a great coach.Really hope this guy gets a gig.Like Mitchell.Dont know why,but i like him around the place.

He is the assistant coach at Sydney and would be great but i doubt he would want to leave a prmiership side.

I would love Peter Dean to play a role as a Backman coach. Althoug he always took the 3rd best defender he always tried his hardest and did the 1% eg tackles, smothering kicks etc. He always pressured the oppositions attack and thats what we need. We need backman players to get 4- 5 tackles per game min. We would find that the oppostion team would make more mistakes. Who would be the best to teach the 1%?...you guessed it Peter Dean.

Would Paul Salmon be interested in coaching? He could help out the forwards and rucks

I'd definitely like to see some ex-Carlton players back around the club whether officially or un-officially. We also need some outside influence and ideas from other clubs.

If Fraser Brown is too busy and earning too much money...ok, ask him to come down a couple of sessions a month and talk to the younger players. Same with Dean Rice. Lets have the younger players see what a great club we have and that the players still bleed for it.

I'd definitely like Peter Dean as an assistant coach, and maybe Ashcroft as PJ suggests. What about Jason Ball as a Ruck Coach? Just retired from a premiership team. Not the greatest ruckman of all time, but its not the great players that make great coaches.

As for Hicky, Ratten, Braddles etc they can leave their ego's at home, Pagan can drop his and use their help. This is about rebuilding the club and everyone needs to do their part.

What a great show it would be for Ratten to offer his service's, along with Brown, a couple of times a month.

See that's where it gets me, Brad.

"A couple of times a month"

I want an assistant coach who will be at the club 24/7. That's why I was so pissed off when Collingwood signed Carey. Look at what he has done for our forwards (both young and old) by only turning up once a week. Imagine what he would be able to do for us if he were helping out 24/7?

We really have missed a huge opportunity here.

What does Alastair Lynch do these days? He'd surely be handy as a forwards coach?!

Was Carey being paid? I'd be surprised if he was, and given his multitude of outside interests, fair enough he could only make one day a week (and it wouldn't be a 10 hour day either).

To get coaches 24/7 they are going to want to be paid to compensate them for the time they're away from their restaurants, cafes, share portfolios, real estate developments, television shows and various other business interests. Then, to adequately compensate them (ie match the six figure income said businesses generate) Clubs need to pay them hefty packages, which isn't always possible given the economic situation of many AFL Clubs in this day and age...thus it's much better for both the ex-player and the Club to contract skills based coaches on such a part-time basis.

It all comes down to business.
