1st quote
Resigningn Lance is the priority now.
The club has made a fair offer and Lance wants to see what is out there

"We're not too far apart"

Trading Fevola is not something the club is considering. Anything else is speculation but if in trade week an appropriate deal is offered, anything is possible

The club knows what they are looking for and need in trade week (you would hope so)

Am I missing something!!! What did Lance do to be catapulted to the position of being a priority when you think that he has delivered boiled lollies for the past 3 years. Fev has kicked nearly 180 goals over the past 3 seasons and Lappin was an All-Australian and yet they seem more expendable. Why aren't they a priority over Lance ...

Trying to reduce total player payments.

Not the salary cap but the payments outside it.

Marketing and vet list.

That means Camporeale to me is the one he is talking about.

They are waiting for him to return after his holiday and they will speak to him again.

If a great trade came up then they would look at it .

Sorry missed a few mins.
Kev and Michael are now talking about back ended contracts and how people rate players on the fact they are earning 600k this year without realising they were earning less in the preceding years.

Medium to long term is being looked at.

Said it 4 or 5 times.

Club is looking at long term and develpoing youth with trade week and draft rather then strengthening the team with experienced players.

The first 2 picks are not available for trade

Club will wait till after draft camp and up till draft week at least before announcing the no 1 pick. No guarantee it is Murphy (didnt sound convincing saying that)

Try and summarize.

Lance, Campo and Lappin all had good offers put to them 6 to 8 months ago.

They decided not to sign.

Lance is a priority for the club to retain.
The offer is not far off what he wants. They hope that something can be worked out.
They will talk to him after he come back from holiday.
He is the sort of player that Carlton want to retain.

All the Fevola ta;l is media driven and not by Carlton.

The club has the 4th or 5th highest costing football department and they need to be prudent and cut costs.
Mentioned the payments outside that. The marketing allowance and veteranas list as where they will try and cut costs.
Maybe not reduce the cap but the outside payments.

Medium to long term is what is being looked at.
2 early picks will be kept.
Mentioned what Richmond and Hawthorn did this year.

Compared his club to West Coast and Sydney. Those clubs because of where they finished would not be looking to do much trading but we might be.

Said there was a priority on who is signed and the others are on a bit of a backburner.

Malouf said all the right things.

No point in saying that Lance is going to be traded. That would not make any sense even if he was. Got to say that he is a required player otherise how are we going to get a good deal if we trade him.
Cant annoy the members either if he is flippant about him.

Any mention of this regigging of the financials that people mentioned the other day? That would be about the 3rd time since 2002 would it not? How many times can you consolidate debt?

Nothing about that. Just contracts and player payments.

Standard answers and the 'required player' rhetoric that all officials keep spouting.

Lets just hope that Nixon has spoken to a few clubs and they are prepared to pay the 400k he wants.

Malouf also said that the only issue with Lance and his contract was money and not length. KB asked how long it was and he would not answer.

Someone from the club needs to follow up every interview Nixon gives and tell him to get f#@ked ... thats what every Calrton supporter needs/wants to hear.

This guy needs a reality check (and a kick to the head). Trying to justify $400k a year for Lance (same pay packet as Hird and Akermanis at the peak of their powers) by referring to his All Australian year ... it was 5 years ago for f#@ks sake!!!!

Agreed. Mostly PR spin. Not a lot to take out of the interview, except for the repeated insistence that we're looking towards the medium to long term.
