Before the game I didn't think we were very good and needed a mini rebuild.

Now I have gone from thinking we are mid range to realizing unless we make major changes to the list we are probably looking at 12-15th next year.

Our list is garbage basically. Some of the decisions which have led is to where we are today are baffling to say the least.

It's not the talent that's a problem, it's the culture.
So many players have shown good signs, and then stagnated.
We are so mentally soft, and have lost any killer instinct that we've shown over the last few years.

There is talent but it is concentrated too heavily in some areas and too thinly in others.

No leadership and being very meek as a group is another big issue.

lets look at our 1st round picks since 2003

2003 - Walker - bare pass
2004 - Russell = fail
2005 - Kennedy = Gone but now a gun
2005 - Murph = Semi Elite but cant handle a tag and not a real leader
2006 - Gibbs = picks and chooses
2007 - Kruezer = fail
2008 - Yarran = soft and another picker and chooser

that should be our locked up guaranteed guns and the foundation of our team

which of them would guarantee us a top 10 pick?

we are seriously embarrassing

Your talent is your culture, off and on the field. Walker is a better player, for instance, when he has a purpose ans some allies.

Your talent is your culture, of and on the field.

Fine.
It's not our ability that's the problem. Our players have shown that they can play well enough to beat anyone.
But they are mentally soft. And we have a complete lack of leadership.

Well, it is our ability when taken as a collective whole. Nothing exists in isolation, it's cause and effect. Chicken versus egg at best.

Mids, Mids and more Mids

Too many half paced taggers and soft cock outside number one picks

They all looked good when Juddy could carry them on his back

But now we've killed Kenny, our deficiency has finally been exposed

Why the hell I Wayne Hughes still around!! I know he's not the head honcho of recruiting anymore, but his repeated ineptitude year after year is to blame for all this!!
HOPE HE IS GONE AT THE END OF THE YEAR!!!

we were told we were young and be patient were coming...

now that we are old.. what are they telling us???

you see.. time is the most precious commodity u have and u must use it well instead of waiting ....

thats the mentality of the club... wait.. and stop being negative...!!!.... everyone will come good... wait !!

ridiculous!!!... :screwy:

To have list management.. we must overhaul our recruitement alltogether.. no need to wait and see in 5 years how theyre going...

just pay a stack and get a proven group
fix development and coaching

now u r going to ask me where we find the stack???... well ask sticks for it.. hes the president..!!!...surely he knows!!!

no???.... well @#$%&! off sticks!!!.... u neither have money or the intellectual capacity for this position!!...

wtf are you doing there???... oh ya.. 150th next year.....selfish prick!!

Let me re cap...

we have everyone playing that can play midfield.. there is noone missing....
theyre all there...!!!... thats our midfield.. there are not enough of them...but most of them are hotting 30!!!

What we do have there is a bunch of hbfer types and talls that are slow...and cant play the modern game

We have no leadership structures

so!!!...

were basically cooked!!!.. and hughes is allowed to walk around visy...!!!

Thats Carlton style recruitment and list management...!!

I think we blow the whole thing up, trade anything of value and start again. We're just lucky we signed up a young coach on minimum wage and gave him the remit to build from the ground up.

This is where I think we got it wrong over the last 10 years:

- didn't recruit players who are leaders, tough and can kick (eg Rich, Selwood). Instead we focused on athletic types with speed eg Hampson, Garlett and Yarran;

- relied too heavily on Judd and Murphy and didn't build depth into our midfield through the draft. Need this for sustained success. eg Kreuzer, Warnock, Rowe etc

- haven't been good traders, particularly where trading at the right time for balance on our list eg Betts, Hampson etc. Look at Hawthorn;

- stuck with certain players for too long eg Russell, Waite, Bower, Joseph etc. Hopefully, we don't make the same mistake with Levi (still early days)

- should never have hired Ratten or given him contract extensions; his game style was simply wrong and we wasted 5 prime years on the team's development;

- have not been able to land a key forward since Fev;

- overrated our list (I have been guilty of this too);

- we have a losing culture. The spoon years have had a big impact on the club; and

- president needs to be replaced ASAP.

I could go on.

It will now take us a minimum of 3 - 5 years to get where we want to be. Very hard to take but let the work begin.

You know whats more worrying.
When we traded Fev we almost bagged the elephant.....Bradshaw and Rishetelli...

Just in case you think what we have been doing was ok...... just never remember that....

Ratten / Sticks /Hughes.

The very unholy trinity that added more years of pain to this club.

shit coach and didnt understand the game.. or list building .. there too long!!!
shit recruiter.. who murdered our picks on nothing players.. there too long!!!
shit president.. who has overseen all of this.. and worse... there too long!!!

Thats a deadly combination!!!

juddy was a red herring...in a blue jumper...

made us think the job was done.. all we had to do was build around HIM....

he wasnt a leader... and we didnt bother having a succession plan for captaincy.. when we got him we had noone else..
but surely the task was to build a group of leaders....

and build a full midfield.. not rely on him winning brownlows...for us to stay in the race
