If you fail to see why a small forward should be paid less than others in our side then you have questionable eyesight indeed.

Eddie was right to go, we were never going to pay him that kind of money and I'd have been fuming if we did.

Ok over the last five years which has been our most potent.
Game is about winning scores...
I don't care if he's small it tall he's our most productive forward
You sound like you doubt me because Eddie is not tall but Casboult Rowe are ?

much planning

Don't expect ripper stuff at Carlton just a half a step forward when we need to take steps forward to catch up

Onya Eddie !

Bet he would have stayed if the offer was better even if not exactly 500 k

But to gain the premium Eddie had to go. Make space etc.

Full salary cap dadidadida.

Come on.....you can't look at it that simplictically. Who knows what we offered say it was 400....that is clearly what he is worth and no more. If you paid him 450 where are we going to find the money for walker, Henderson, Murphy, Gibbs. They would all be warranted in asking for 600k. Imagine the negotiation " so your saying my player (walker) isn't as good as betts" etc etc and then you have a cap blow out. Then we would be criticizing the club for letting eg walker go, instead of betts. The point is this is overly negative and heaping criticism on the club where it isn't due

Henderson was reportedly signed up for 400k a year earlier this year, based on that Eddie wouldn't even be worth that much, best result for everyone was he join adelaide and take the money on offer and we move on, would have been more upset if the club had matched adelaide's offer.

Be tts has served his apprentiship.
He's been in our goals scorer podium last three years I would think.
Can't dismiss that.
Betts was never going to be the problem signing.
He pays his way

Could somebody please share the post that lists the players salary and benefit payments.

I assume from the hundreds of posts the club has openly shared including our challenges with the TPP cap?

Everyone speaks with great authority.

If the club couldn't manoeuvre things around so that we could give Betts an extra 100k a season as has been suggested then were really [REDACTED]. After all, he has been our most productive forward of the last decade Fev aside. Good chance we were probably happy to let him go and there was perhaps more to things than just money and not being able to fit him in.

I read or heard somewhere , Eddie wanted to go back to Adelaide to be with his sick father, which is why the departure was so amicable .

You don't pay a small forward 500k unless his nickname is lethal.

Upon further reflection, we need to really cheat the salary cap again.

Problems solved.

Some of you need to HTFU . We finished 6th for christs sake . 12 teams finished lower than us .

Our list is not the best ( thanks to Ratten and Hughes ) , but change is happening .

Some of you blokes should f*^% off , and support Richmond , Norf or the Puppies . Then you'd have something to whinge about .

Don't sugar coat it. We finished 9th. Sure we finished 6th when we're bragging to Pies and Bombers fans, but really, we were 9th. Lost to Saints, Dogs. Didn't beat a top 4 team. Again. Miles away.

But in the end we finished 6th.

because we didnt increase our offer to Eddie (100K......or whatecer as reported by 'journalists')

...........................does not confirm that we have salary cap issues

perhaps it is a demonstration that we are finally making hard calls about value and what we need.

Interestingly he only ever kicked 6 goals against adelaide in his entire 9 years.
37 v richmond
39 v Essendon*
32 v collingwood.

We're going to need a fair bit of coin up our sleeve next year for the F/A's on the books, unless everyone is already on overs hence the squeeze that we're in.

For practical purposes, we finished 9th, it would be counter-intuitive to look at it any other way.

One can only hope we are in such a squeeze on our cap because we are leaving money for these FAs next year and budgeting in order to keep them. But I'm probably dreaming.

We didn't win more than half our games Lol
That's what you should look at in the end

But in the end we finished 6th.

Haha if I wanted to make a hard call on a player it would be Judd not betts. Betts is entering the prime of his career.
Juss is just way overpaid.
Hasn't played that kind of football since the birth of Oscar.
Two and a half years of overpaid slop output.
Not only is he a mortal but his skills are shocking and my biggest peeve... He has zilch defensive qualities and that makes him a liability in the modern game.
Guys like Jude Bolton Luke ball Lenny Hayes have shot bodies but they don't use that as an excuse not to get around the ground both ways.
Can't afford for your leaders to not work hard and pick and choose.

There's a lot of rubbish sprouted in this thread.

Like complaining about Waite's contract. You guys realise that only half of it counts in the cap right? But if we only gave him 2 years, and signed him again for this year (or are you suggesting we should cut him?), then we'd only save $112 500, so he would actually cost us more cap space.

Eddie is not worth anything like 500. As sad as it is to lose him, it's a good thing that we didn't concede to his demands.

Eddie isn't here but we're pretty full in the salary cap.
The problem was never Eddie
The problem is our contracting and list management are a problem
Waite is on the vets list so is carrazzo Simpson Scotland maybe

Waite is low value.
