Yeah.

Came in to TAFE early this morning. Usually have a class in the morning but it has been cancelled for today and last week. I have a class at 12:30 but decided to come in and stuff around here for a few hours.

That article just show you what a failed policy it was of Pagans and how it has hindered the clubs development. This year and to a certain extent last year they seem to be getting it right. Go to the draft do not recycle.

Wonder how Laidley feels reading that little filler. He's now become the king of the go-arounds.

I think you add retreds to complete your list or fix a weakness but you dont make a team out of them...Clape, Rice and Pearce were good additions to Kernahan, Bradley and co when we needed them just to add the finishing touches to a premiership team.
Pagan was put on the spot when he arrived..supporters wanting some success however small and no decent draft picks..he probably regrets over doing the retreds....

Compare them to who left and it doesn't look so bad. We still have the youngest list in the comp don't forget.

Funny that Adelaide were going to take Mott before we swooped on him. They opted for Hudson instead. Should have been the other way around though.

Out of that list the only ones I would have looked at taking would have been Hudson, Rischitelli, Hartigan and Tuck.

Whilst the list does'nt make pretty reading,to me it is just the nature of the beast.Re-cycling has always been a bit hit and miss.Particularly when you are forced to go so far down the list and have few options(currency) re trading for quality.

What the journalist failed to do was apply his logic fairly. The master coach,Sheedy, yesterday announced the delisting of rejects,Alvey,Cupido,Zantuck and Murphy.Add to this the retirement of Allan who had hardly set the world alight at Bomberland.FIVE players.

Additionally Mr Sheedy had not been hamstrung at selection by the issues that Pagan faced.

Seems to me some selective reporting. But then again we are talking about the Blues!

The journalist answered his own question when he mentioned the draft penalties for being the AFL fall guy. They can throw Norman and Angwin in with the draft penalties.
We had the option of, oh that's right we had no other option.
We lost nothing and a gained 10 wins in 2004 instead of another spoon.
Maybe they should focus on the players swapped, Mckernan, Beaumont, Allan. Murphy, and their new homes these clubs had no penalties so they are the idiots, if one must be declared.
The obvious pointed out again and another chance to mention the word "cheating". I would love in time for someone to honestly say that the penalties were ridiculous and disproportionate to the crime.
Which flag did we win again oh one seven years earlier. Geez even the taxman will let you off after seven years. We won a wooden spoon when we were cheating, it's such a big advantage. Then it did cost Essendon*, Blumfield, Caracella and the Dees Woewoeful, all such big losses to their clubs, probably would have won another flag. At the same time as the penalties Brisbane on 600k a season more in TPP win three flags, rough justice, now Sydney on 600k + win one. But it's all about us back in 1995.
Forget the superstars we lost at least give back the million dollars and interest, so we can move on.

I wouldn't have minded Amon Buchanan on our list all the same.

What he fails to report is that, while we traded pick 16, we would have lost it had we kept it.

Doesn't it shit you that reporters have such a biased view!

Good work, Bookie.

We've had Brisbane dominate (tick box), now Sydney have FINALLY done something (another box ticked), who's next..........(looking down list) OH MY GOD FREO!! Now we have to baby Freo to a flag.

Sanctioned cheating is what the AFL, Swans and Brisbane have been doing, all in the name of TV rights.

Every one must a turn at winning, kiddies.

And it was pick 18 originally ... it only became 16 after we lost our first 2 anyway!

This article basically sums up the reasons why trade week has become a malaise of the highest order. Journos now seem to pot anyone who conducts business in trade week with the aim of improving their list while the teams that stock up on draft picks are insulated from criticism because of very public 'youth' policies. I'm all for retaining draft picks ... but when clubs like the Hawks and Collingwood deliberately worsen their list to improve their trade position, I start to fear for the credibility of the system.

What's wrong in exchanging players like Murphy, Allan, McKernan, Beaumont, etc for other tried players. Nothing ventured. nothing gained and while we'd all like a bunch of young talent at the club, the draft penalties meant we would have had to make do with another 6 picks in the 70s and 80s rather than try out the Johnsons of the world.

Sydney was a good example of how a team can have sustained success for a number of years and still improve their list enough to get a flag ... the extra money in their cap (without any penalties) sure helped though 8)

Crazy Journo's. I think to get get 5 good players out of that lot was great recruiting. Now we have some players to build on. Good work Carlton.
