By my calculations we still have close to a third of the list out of contract at the end of the year.
This includes Menzel, Robbo, Rowe, Casboult, Waite and Garlett. 6 of our best 22 still to be re-signed, i have included Garlett as he is when in form.
Thats 2 key forwards, a key backman and 2 crumbing forwards.
It would appear that Garlett and Robbo are gone, Waite who knows and the other 3 the club appears to be having trouble getting signatures.
Casboult and Menzel have been few of the good things to have come out of this season and we are at risk of losing them.

If Waites back is stuffed as reported I can't see other clubs showing much interest so I'd expect he'll take up McKays 1 year offer.

I'm not sure what you're worried about.
If Menzel decides he wants to go, we will get a good trade. Which isn't bad considering the potential for him to miss large chunks of time with knee injuries. (Do you really think of him as a crumbing forward?)
Casboult and Rowe are certain to re-sign. (Blokes who have been given chances like they have do not spit in your face)
It's really not going to matter much either way about Waite.
We have to power with Robbo. He will want to stay. We can trade if the right price comes along.
Garlett was already gone.

Casboult and Rowe: Certainties to re-sign.
Waite: Won't happen, but it would be nice if he does get a 2 year deal at another club and we get a decent recruit as a result.
Menzel: Will be disappointed if he doesn't re-sign - that will come back to bite us. It's looking increasingly likely as time passes.
Robbo and Garlett: Methinks trade bait as a package, together with a pick, for a quality forward.

menzel is by means irreplaceable and at this point in his career another club would pay significant overs for him.

we'd be mad not to listen to offers.

this offseason we need a genuine kpp, more midfield depth, more run and carry and a dynamic, nifty little crumbing forward. The more we're prepared to give up, the more quality will be coming back through our doors. Menzel, robbo, garlett and even casboult could all yield us something.

It would be pretty devastating if Menzel didn't want to re-sign. Our best young player, and quite simply, looks a future star and leader.
Would be a massive indictment on the state of th club if he wishes to leave.

In saying that, if he did - ship him off to GWS for a key forward.

As talented as he is, if Menzel genuinely doesn't want to be at Carlton we're better off without him.

Hopefully it's a situation where he signs for a couple of years, settles in and then enjoys a long and productive career at Carlton.

Surprising there has been no media build up about Menzel. They talk about Waite and Casboult but not him anymore.

Maybe because none of it is true.

The journo who interviewed him when he won the RS nom told me a week ago that he expects Menz to stay but won't sign until end of the season. I'm assuming this is why no one is writing about it.

..well, end of season is approaching, so he'd (menz) want to either sign up, or tell the club.. ..otherwise little time to get to where he wants to go if he does indeed want to leave.. ..a very talented player, but if we got a good offer i'd do it pronto.. ..sooner or later the knee will go, won't be an onballer until late in his career.... ..he has talent, but an early pick can replace that talent.. ..otherwise keep him sure, but dont get reamed at the negotiations..

..jeffy i like, but if he wants to head back home fair enough, given the big picture.. ..little coin, good service from a rookie.. ..whatever we get in a trade, we're ahead.. ..and quite simply, small forwards can be drafted later in the order.. ..and i'd rather use that position for a resting mid, and gain an extra runner in the line up..

....would be shocked to sit here and read either of rowe or bolt left..

..waite will most likely loiter around on a one year deal, ditto juddles..

menzel was quoted as saying he'd love to play with his brother. not knowing the context, I thought they would have had years of playing with each other.

If Menzel does want to go to Geelong is it worth trying to make a trade for Kersten?

Maybe throw in Mitch for one of their numerous up and coming midfielders, like a Hunt, Cowan, Schroder or Murdoch.

The Garlett/Robinson issue could be a blessing.

Gone:

Scotland
Duigan
Bootsma

Trade:

Robinson
Garlett
Lucas

If we could get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Garlett and a 3rd or 4th Rounder for Robinson that would be a great. To clear out our list we need draft picks and as many as possible. A trade of some of our players and swapping of picks to upgrade is our best chance of picking up good kids.

Yeah we'd have done spectacularly well to get a third and fourth rounder for two players who at their best are in our best 22.
