Good night.

A brief radio interview is a rather flimsy basis for building this rather large assumption on...reminds me of that pig that made its house out of straw.

Lappin was back to his best today. Seemed in great spirit and showed flair and class. I hope it is because the contract is ready to sign.... don't want to loose him.

I'd also hate for Lappin to become less tight.

Surely we couldnt let Lappin go now, especially for nothing, he is to good of a player to let go, but i guess the figures need to add up, but we need to sign him, we need him.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease just re-sign him please, he looked a 3 year player tonight. I was frankly embarrased when Dwayne Russell called him 'a player without a club'; I still felt strongly for him. He should be a Carlton man.

Not many people on this site estimate how much our team will struggle with a lack of 100+ game players. It may not necessarially be the leadership or the exquisite skills, but the cool heads.

Please stay Skinny, you may not see outright success with us during your playing days, but you'll at least have the upmost respect of (most) supporters if you finish out your playing days with us in dignity.

There is an interview on the official website that Matty gave after the International Rules game. He was asked a few questions about the contract situation and really didn't want to talk about it which is fair enough given that he wanted to speak about the International Rules game. Based on the interview, I really got the feeling that he will stay. He said that he had a very productive chat with Malouf yesterday and he said these things take time so let's just wait and see. For those interested, I got the feeling that he didn't want to talk about it because he was being sensitive to his interests as well as the club. He is class act and I will be sad to see him leave if that's how the cards fall but I am pretty confident he will stay after what I just heard.

Sounds like he wouldn't mind playing under Sheedy:

http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg= ... eid=235614

Quote:
Lappin has drawn plenty of positives from playing under Australian coach Kevin Sheedy, who drummed into the players the importance of the history of the series and the honour of representing your country.

"When he coaches I just sit and listen to every word he says because he's just an amazing coach. I've just appreciated these two weeks so much and I'm just so happy that they gave me the opportunity," Lappin said.

"I always listen to him speak before the Anzac (Day) games and I just sit there and think 'gee, that would be a great thrill' - the way he builds up those games. It's been no different with this series.

Did you say he had a very productive chat to Malouf the other day ? So how come he had a chat with Malouf and not his manager Joseph ? Probably realizes Joseph does more harm than good and is better left out.

...However...

Quote:

"Coming from Carlton, where we've had some lean years, to be able to win two games in a row and be able to represent your country is a huge honour,"

"Playing for Victoria is gone now. I suppose this is the next best thing for us. Nothing beats winning grand finals and playing finals football, but (with) where my club's at the moment - that is a fair way off.

"We only won four games this year and (now) I've won two in a row and I'm playing for Australia.

I guess you could take something from the fact that he still refers to himself as a Carlton player...? Please?

Blues and Lappin talk but yet to reach a deal
He might still walk but I find these quotes encouraging and his attitude towards the club is markedly different to Camporeale's.
Quote:
"I sat down yesterday with Michael Malouf and had a really good chat with him, so we're working through some things. So we've just got to wait," Lappin said after starring in the second international rules Test on Friday night.

"It just takes time, these things, so we're sorting through it at the moment. It's something that is out of my control, I suppose. So I haven't really worried about it. I've just tried to play this game and play it as well as I possibly could because I was representing my country, my family and my footy club. So I hope that the Carlton people are proud of the way both Jarrad (Waite) and I did perform."

Quote:
"We only won four games this year, and I've won two in a row and playing for Australia. So it's a huge honour and I was just rapt that I could contribute and play a part.

"Playing for Victoria's gone now, and I suppose this is the next best thing for us. Nothing beats winning grand finals and playing finals football. But where my club's at at the moment, that's a fair way off, so this is like a pinnacle for me."

Quote:
"Footy changes quickly. Carlton's at the bottom at the moment, but the club's going to get some young kids and a few other players into the club, so it could all turn around pretty quickly," he said.

Dwayne Russell is happy to take any opportunity to make snide comments about Carlton. He certainly wouldn't be saying it if it was a Port Adelaide or Geelong player who was uncontracted.

Yes, well done Matty. I hope you play to your best and last for a 3rd year so we can extend your contract.

He can sign for 300K if he wants, IMO he's worth that much. If the figures the HUN were reporting last week were right, then he's going to be on a bit more than that but that's ok IMO. At his best, he's definitely worth 350K, signing him for a bit below that like 300K is definitely ok, particularly for the loyalty he showed the club last time.

Congrats Matty.

I would like to apologise for former disparaging remarks I made about yourself. Hoping for a revitalised Matty Lappin to return to form without the burdens of contract negotiation hanging over your head.
