Apparently we're desperate, and he dominated in the VFL all season in a midfield role. That seems to be the kind of player we're targeting to top up our depth.

Why do you think we are desperate?

If we must, I would rather Petrenko than Jetta...

Would have played in a premiership Synbad, If the Swans had kicked 12 more goals and he'd been selected to play.
Mick just jettisoned him.

Ellard the luckiest guy in Eastern Australia -must have a good work ethic
Thought originally his real skill was his kicking even lost that during the year

Because we've done a 3-year turnover in 2 years, are eyeing off multiple delisted free agents as well as project players and category B rookies, all of this under the stewardship of most of the people who were there to witness the recruitment and re-signing of the discarded in the first place.

It's ridiculous that we haven't been able to extract overs often enough for players that are talented but are surplus to requirements or haven't quite fit our mould for them. That's a big part of McKay's job this time of year and he's failed at it 3 years running.

Why are we playing this like we're paupers when in the last two off-seasons it looks like we'll have had 7 players leave the club for other teams and the effective net return is Docherty, Thomas and a 4th round pick?

Whatever this is supposed to be, we're treating it like limbs need to be cut off rather than bitter pills need to be swallowed, and now we're the ones losing out on draft value because of it.

DocSherrin described him as the second best trainer he'd ever seen at the club.

From memory they moved Rohan Kerr in with Ellard and Armfield hoping that their work ethic etc would rub off on him.

If we are serious about moving forward, none of Mclean, Ellard, Lucas or Robinson should be anything more than depth, so therefore the final spot goes to the one with the best attitude. The one that will lead the way on the track. The one that is never in trouble off field. The one that follows team rules. The one that will provide leadership to the young Blues coming through the 2's, and the one that will play 2's all year without complaint or a drop off of effort.

The other three are the same guys people would complain were getting games over Cripps, Graham, Holman, Buckley and now Whiley and more than likely Pick #19.

Now is not the time to rejoice in the delistings, however IMO all are correct decisions and my suspicion is those closely connected to the club would say if anything at least a year too late.

It's much more nuanced than that and we're building off a bigger base, but yes we are trying to fill in gaps on the list in short time. Look to North if you want to see how the old-school top up is done, though lucky for them they've racked in the talent with top 50 picks recently.

My problem is the way we managed to lose these players for so little in return. Yes we got some value trades in both off-seasons that turned 2 picks into 4 players, but one should not excuse the other.

Apparently we should have came out and resigned them that day. Could have traded them both for first round picks then.

I'm assuming the same ones we spend 6 months complaining about how shit they are, and then the other 6 months complaining about how we should have got something for them at trade week and losing them will come back to haunt us.....

Waite, McLean, Lucas, Duigan, Bootsma and Robinson were all concerns for us at the start of last off-season. They had 18 months to prepare for free agency and they clearly didn't understand it given how they let Betts walk.

Why not pull the trigger on two or three of those names back then to try and get some value back in? I'm not going to sit here and pretend any of them except Betts and Waite would have drawn a first round pick; some would have been next to worthless because of injury issues, contracts and just being god awful selections, but I see 5 names from a list of 7 that would have extracted value.

We're incredibly risk averse, and now we've taken a list with potential into a middle of the table slump because we don't know how and when to sell. Just because it's not worth much to us, doesn't automatically make it worthless.

Only need to look at how many of these off-casts have made to other teams over the last 4-5 seasons; better strike rate than most clubs.

Pretty bloody easy with 20//0 hindsight jimmae. Name a couple of sell high players you would recommend us trading this year.
