I realise we may want to keep hype about Setanta low key and dowse expectations, but surely we could have got a bit of positive publicity about his elevation, particularly on the back of the International Rules controversy (debacle) and Tagh Kennelly's premiership performance. We've had little to cheer about for 4 years, most publicity has been bad. The club really needs to push any good news stories. We didn't even push it on the AFL web site

I think this just reflects the fact that the rookie elevation was expected. He has had his senior debut already, and the elevation merely means he is now available for senior selection from Round 1. What else can you publicise?

His elevation is really just a decision based on the past year - no new development.

Once pre-season training turns serious next year, especially when intra-club and inter-club matches start, any encouraging performance from Setanta will be well publicised.

Gerry the herald sun had a section on Carlos when it was announced. I haven't seen many other guys who were promoted this year receive any publicity.

Thanks mjonc and mrs caz, i saw that, but the club was very low key on the web site too. Rookie elevations are usually not news, but Irish players on AFL lists are. I just thought the club might want to make a bit more of it. Still maybe keeping it low key is the best for Setanta's development.

I believe this club has little clue on self promotion and product reinforcement...
Im hoping that will all change with a couple of additions to the board.

That in itself is extraordinarily disappointing. You'd reckon after going through the shit we have in the last few years the board would have a good understanding, if not need, for some positive spin around the place (and substance to go with).

It's not as if they don't have a handful of carlton tragics ready to pounce on this stuff for free, you know. Those CFC Contributor people have offered time & time again to cover stuff like this, plus Lappin's resigning, and its all taken as a good idea, but like many other areas at Carlton at the moment they're just under-resourced and maybe thinking about different stuff?

Last year requests for Bowyer's 50th, Lappin's 200th, time with Pagan etc. was all just canned in the end. Hope they give Communications some extra staffing and impetus. Over the off season fans (and me) need to know:

* Hartlett, Blackwell's progress
* Saddington and what role he thinks he 'splaying
* Sporn and Wiggins - whats next?
* All new draftees
* Setanta's promotion
* retention of the 2 year rookies

Theres so much good news out there if we look for it, rather than the negative crap we've thrown on each other the last two months.

There you go, off my chest.

There you go - the publicity machine has started to swing into action: Ready for Lift Off

According to SEN, there was a large media contingent at training today, so someone at the club has pressed the right buttons.

positive but realistic lot those Irish blokes.

Why doesn't Molsey write a story about the impact these guys have on the other players with their pleasant nature, work ethic etc.

Or while I'm on a roll, what abiout an interview with AWs old man. Love to know about the sacrifices etc the families had to make to keep the lad in the system over the years.

c'mon get to work
