Doering is a dud and i hope Essendon* pick him up to hinder their future...lazy player with no concept of the defensive side of the game who is always looking for the easy receive under the guise of being a playmaker... watched him several times during the VFL season and his mode of operation hasnt changed at all....sit off the play and then get the easy kick without having to exert himself too much....its a rare sight to see Doering in a contest for the footy.

Players like Doering iritate me more than most, get plenty of stats so they appear like they are good players but its all done in a way that actually cheats on their teammates, short kicks, the old pick and roll to get the ball back for the easy give and you end up being indirect, playing wide and not getting results for the amount of ball you have had......

So you're saying that he's even more of a skiier than Campo?

Good on him if he can pull it off.

I think they're recruiting Campo with this role in mind...

That's premature speculation.

Come again...?

Sounds like Campos going to blow the joint

When it all turns to shit I reckon Sheedy will feel a bit stiff...

A lot of you guys are being very harsh on a player who won us two games with last quarter goals in that horrible Brittain inspired 2002 season (Richmond under lights and Bulldogs late in the year).

He actually had pretty good disposal, was ok overhead and serviceable in most games he played. He's been crucified for basically one error against Hawthorn in 2001 much like Brett Backwell's career was condemned for his kicking error against Essendon* earlier that season. We lost two good players when Brittain decided to replace flair with hardness at all costs.

He's hardened against those circumstances.

Would have to disagree...I have had my say on Doering so I wont repeat myself other than to add that I dont believe in recruiting journeymen experienced players to rebuild a team...especially when they have never been anything more than servicable at best...
re: Backwell..no better than Steve Kenna IMHO and just another player who has found his level in the SANFL...not good enough for AFL but ok for the next level down...a fit Eddie Betts has more upside ....I did say at the time that Backwell was unlucky after winning the Liston to be axed bit after watching him play in the SANFL it was the right move..

If we had talent in our side I would agree with you 100%. The only problem is we brought in players who would struggle even at SANFL level (Plunkett, McCormick, etc) ... and a few of those still remaining (Wiggins, Bannister) are still on our list! As mature age options I agree they are not the answer but they could have been developed into players who would have served us better than many running around in navy blue for the past few years.
