My original point was just to state that most list management decisions would have already been made by SOS and Bolton won't have the input some are expecting. SOS has the final say. Whether that is right or wrong will remain to be seen.

I agree with philosophy. Let the baker bake the bread and all that.

Bolton should be able to articulate the type of players he is looking for to carry out his game plan, then let SOS go out and get them by whatever means necessary.

I've never agreed with coach specific recruiting; get the best players to the club and go from there.

  Great post.

True but too simplistic. The coach needs to have a say. Key criteria needs to be met such as character, kicking etc and then the List Manager/Recruiter can go do his job.

Yes, but the way people talk around here it's as if each coach has a unique template at his disposal and should be allowed to veto common sense. Let's hope it doesn't come to it but you can change your coach much easier than you can chance the makeup of your list. Coach led recruiting nailed us Robbie Warnock, Brock McLean and Thomas - not exactly inspired recruiting.

Coach tells list manager which current listed players to get rid of... list manager tells recruiter what types to replenish the list... recruiter delivers. Simple.

Damn right. Anyone watching the Bulldogs ball use at the moment. Talk about chalk and cheese.

GWS the joint. Load up wit as many top 20 picks over the next 2-3 years by trading whoever/whenever.

Now we can trade future picks, some clubs mightn't value 1st round or 2nd round picks in a future draft than they do in the current draft, so we may get overs for a player now

I'll get howled down for this as being the "OLD Carlton" way, but we need to put a Buddy Franklin type deal to Tom Lynch from the GC.
Believe me Collingwood will in the next couple of seasons as Cloke is nearing the end.

He is a gun, a leader and he will come back to Vic at some stage.

:yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

Don't be surprised if we trade to receive an early pick/s for next year not just this year!! I think we need a blend of both, if we are serious.

Here are some thoughts on current list.
I'm crossing everything this time next year we have Jaksch and Giles as locks. Extremely important these 2 develop as KP.
Holman, Docherty, Graham and Buckley need to take the steps through the midfield. Rotations, rotations, rotations...
DVR and Sheehan need to now stand up and demand to play more back. Hopefully players like Dick also build the depth back there.
SMITH.....that's all we have in a small forward. Coaches have something to work with. He has shown his desire, speed and reading of play. Let's fast track him.
Others like Whiley and Walsh - time will tell.

We do however have something to work with and with the right game setup and plan, I'm more confident than some in improvement next year. Bolton and team though have a bit of work over summer and no reason with some good drafting and trading we can't do a StKilda next year and push towards top 8.

 pretty simple really.
I'll add, drafting done by recruitment team and trading done by coaching team.

Possible trades: Kruezer Henderson Yarran Menzel Bell

Keepers for next year:

Running Defenders: Buckley Byrne Sheehan Simpson Docherty Tuohy DVR

Tall Defenders: Jamison Rowe White Giles

Rucks: Wood Korcheck

Mids: Murphy Gibbs Graham Cripps Whiley Boekhurst Holman

Tall Forwards: Casboult Jaksch Walker Everitt (Probably Jones) Foster

Small Forwards: Smith Thomas

Judd Carrazzo retired

In reality not a lot there and a fair few still have to prove themselves. The rest are up for grabs

Wonder if there's room to move Sheahan back to a category B rookie and promote Byrne instead, if we so wanted to?
