I'm with Synbad on this one, the fact that the club has not come out and publically slammed the papers for being wrong suggests there must be some truth in it. What irks me about this is the total lack of professionalism that the club and the player are showing.

This all go towards our newfound culture of close enough is good enough and bugger those who care. Well I care and close enough is never good enough !!

Whitnall is hardly showing how grateful he is to be offered a new contract nor has he changed his habits. Great leadership to the newbies in the club too !!

Should have traded him whilst we could've.

I think some people need to apologise to Whitnall.

Apologise to Whitnall, what for ??

Regardless of whether he is or isn't overweight right now, it's the speculation that is damaging. We need to address it as a club and state categorically that the stroy was a furphy. If the club doesn't come out and do that, then it suggests that he is in fact overweight for another pre-season campaign.

Either way, it is the handling of the situation that worries me the most. Surely we need to be seen to have turned the corner and that there is a bright future ahead. This was a perfect opportunity to show to the media, the supporters & the sponsors that the Carlton Football Club has got it's act together. Sadly, this whole saga has shown once again that we are not being run in a forthright & professional manner.

Why?

The HUN says its true (3 days in a row they've stated it as fact)
The club haven't denied it

Sure a few of our own track watchers say its not true, Stevens says he'll donate his pay to charity if its true, Cazzesman says he's The Easter Bunny if its true.

It must be true..... :garthp:

The guy improved his time trial peformance from last year when he was absolutely flying. @#$%&! me, he can put on as much weight as possible if it means he is going to have better endurance around the ground.

Come on Sheik you have a vested interest here. You just want your prediction about Lance not playing after age 25 to be true.

I don't care whether my prediction comes true or not, what I do care about is the professional image and culture that the club portrays to the outside world.

But thats not the professionalism an AFL club is looking for though is it?
See???

We actually deserve to be shit for the decade.

If Lance is doing the work, doing PB's and remaining injury free I say leave him alone. If he breaks down come the season opener then it is open slather on Fatboy Slim.

Anyway a great read from March this year:

In my opinion you would never find an athlete in todays day and age that doesnt give a shit about his preparation the way Lance doesnt.
Unfortunately if he was say Daley the golfer its ok because its an individual sport and he only serves himself.... but around a young group of players that are looking at the handfull of older players as example ,he is a modern day disgrace.

I can't comment as I've never seen him train personally, but from my own experiences playing the world game, I was the worst trainer possible, yet when it comes to games and providing the leadership required from your keeper I could not be faulted and the young guys did look up to me. There were plenty of other roles models for the youngsters to look up to on the training track.

I see this debate as two different arguments.

1. Training leadership (Teague, Kouta, Prendergast, Walker, Bentick)

2. On field (Lance, Kouta, Lappin)

Whitnall I agree sucks at 1, but it is the choice of team mates who they look up to on the track and if they use Lance then they won't go far. But come 2 the way Lance plays the game on field and his "football brain" is invaluable to our youngsters and each player would be stupid not to follow his lead on the field.

The positive of Whitnall is his improved time trial performance. How this can be overlooked for weight issues is a concern.

Can some please explain to me why a Fully professional footballer or anyone for that matter being they be 18 years old or 25years old needs to have a leader or a role model to set an example for them.

All this leadership talk and group leaders is a pile of modern jargon crap.

I emailed Mike Sheahan yesterday asking about the validity of the paper's claims. He didn't really shed any new light on things, just that they assess the "facts" (his inverted commas, not mine) from whom they consider to be reputable sources. But he agreed they have no absolute proof, like a lot of newspaper stories.

I've always liked how on TC you get opinions from those who go & watch Carlton training once or twice a week for the entire season…and with this in mind you can take the little paper with the grain of salt it often deserves.

But if people want to take the HS as truth, that's up to them. Each to their own I guess….
