Crikey!!

I was just thinking to myself that we haven't had a good old robust debate on Walker for at least a few days now. Maybe we should dust it off for the umpteenth time - you know, just in case we haven't analyzed the kid to death yet.

Walks is one of my favs
Even if he does not rapidly improve next year I have no doubt eventually he will be a very good player for us over a long time
His attitude is right (re Akers comments after he played on him) and he has the ability (re his first game against W.C)
I look at the list of young players we have and I feel good about the future

Not disappointed in him. Disappointed in the teams performance last year but not Walker. His problem is that as one of the few genuinely talented players on our list he has carried the sometimes unreasonable weight of expectation of an army of fans who demand success. I think that the fact that there is some real young talent coming onto the list can only help his development.

now SB Kouta had, hmm let me see, Diesal, Rats, Mad Dog, Sticks, SOS, Ang, Dean, Madden and so on. Yes, he was free to run because we had a bloody brilliant side.

Now this is a tad different. Tex must play differently. We are no longer the old dark luxury Blues, hopefully we will become the hard, down, streetwise Blues.

Oh and comments on Tex's TAC stuff including his habit of drifting perhaps Denis (yes perhaps Denis thinks things through from time to time) was helping Tex improve his concentration last year so that when unleashed he does so accountably...

hell maybe Denis hates the kid and wants to destroy his future...yeah that's it.

whos next on the roster for this site to start ripping into?

sheesh, might as well become a Tiger supporter.

Is it any wonder I rarely read most of the commentary on players.

Yes Danny I agree with you Kouta did play with talent but at the same time we were trying to win flags at the moment we are trying to develop a side and it seems that while blokes like Cooney - Delidio - Wells- Tenace have been allowed to run free and none of them are around talent like you nominated our man Walker has been given negative tagging roles. i dont think Pagan is trying to ruin his career I just think Pagan handles try hard battlers better than he does top talent players. In all his years at north there was only ever one standout at that was Carey . The rest although they were great servicable players weren't the talent that Walker is and could be

That footygoss article is one of the worst articles i've ever read.

Quote:
Melbourne snapped up ready-made stars Colin Sylvia (#3 overall) and Brock McLean (#5), while Kepler Bradley (#6), Kane Tenace (#7) and Raphael Clarke (#8) were also selected in the top ten. Most of these players have been regularly selected in their senior sides and have proven to be valuable assets.

So if Sylvia was a ready-made star and a "regular" in the Melbourne line-up then how come he's played just 19 games all up?

Kep, so far has played some very good games but on who? Noone. He floats across as a loose man and just picks up easy possys. I think when he has to play on actual KP's he'll be very exposed.

Then you factor in how much more improvement Mcleans got, which isn't much.

Raph Clarke is just like his brother, glorified flanker at best.

Walkers played 33 games which is better then the "ready-made star, Colin Sylvia" and also better then Mcleans 29.

For a player who's unskilled, not living up to his talents and who is being out shined by every other top 10 selection then i really worry about the expections placed on Walker.

With the exception of Cooney, Walker has more talent then anyone else in the top 10, he has more time to learn how to use his talents (drafted bottom age) and the fact that he's already played 33 games under Dennis Pagan who, as we know loves to get our players completley ready before putting them in the seniors, means he has done extremley well.

Amazing that Walker's performances are being questioned so early, but it is the off-season after all.

After watching Walker perform against Akermanis at Telstra Dome this year, particularly when it was the stage of the season when Aker was in great form, I have no doubt our man will succeed.

Pagan has made him an accountable footballer before bad habits can kick in. If Walker was allowed to 'run free', as has been suggested, he would be harder to change in attitude and behaviour in future years.

Campo "runs free"...

...at least until he orders one of the younger players to wipe it up...

This now holds the title of "silliest thread ever".

Warby - you should be proud, however I'll be even more impressed if you can do it during the real season when there are some genuine football distractions.

Whilst nobody has posted in this thread that 1AW is a dud, some have gone as far as saying that he is dissapointing. All I can say is they must be watching a different player to me. Sure his disposal is not his strong point, but the upside of this still baby blue is unlimited. If we must make comparisons to other players whether bygone or present, lets be fair and compare apples to apples, not bananas to lemons.

If you were coach, who on our list or rejects and retards would you trust to run with the likes of established superstars such as Aker, McLeod etc? There is no doubt that Pago Pago knows this kid has all the ingredients. Let me list them for you just in case you are still think he isn't up to speed.

Fit, Determined, Courageous, Dedicated, Athletic, Aware, not a Sook, Prima Donna or a Lair and above all, True flower Blue!! Did I miss anything?

Mark my words....1AW will be the benchmark that we will soon say " But is he as good as our superstar #1?" 8)

We don't have to be right when we say we are dissapointed....I'ts not always about being right...we are fans afterall.

Dissapointment is that crap that comes with such a stellar debut.....

I know he is 19 and that circumstances and the fact that he is a shy type are contributing to his form & development.....but for petes sake.... You debut and play superbly and yet never show that kind of form again in the following 2 yrs..? Thats dissapointment in my book. I'm not saying that he won't come good....all I'm saying is I have experienced some personal dissapointment because I wanted some positives to cling to.

I'ts my bad not his....

Just a smidgin disappointed. But only a smidgin.Reckon 'The Freak" Chris Judd has effed it up for everybody. How the bloody hell do you follow an act like that.Judd is a once in a lifetime.Although i reckon Delidio is only a bee's you know what behind him closely followed by Cooney.
Mark my words,Walker will be a superb kick of the footy before he is finished.Skill..........big deal, that can be worked on and guys can improve out of site.
No,the real worry with Walker is that he just dont get enough of the aggot.Make no mistake,Pagan is acutely aware of this, hence the run with roles. You can get it or you cant,BUT it can be worked on in a fashion.Let em run with a ball magnet, and they just may develop the nous of running to the right spot.
By the way, those lauding his game against Akermanis......you are joking arent you.Walker may have been in his face alnight....so what.Aker wracked up the stats and kept going till the end.Akermanis actually took him to the cleaners that night and if you think Walker did well.....then all i can say is you are easily impressed.
BUT,if Walker has any brains then he would have taken it on board and said to himself.........i gave him shit for the whole game,i never let up but despite this,he kept getting the pill and did damage for his side.THATS WHAT A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER IS ALL ABOUT.
Andy has that huge upside of flair and the mercurial factor. But he is not an overnight success and has plenty of work to do.I am happy to wait until he is into his early 20's for him to make his mark.I reckon it will be worth the wait when he hits top gear.
