This is probably not very interesting to anyone other than me.

A couple of weeks ago there was a bit of debate over what number Stephen Oliver wore. Back in the late 80s/early 90s I used to track the numbers Carlton players wore.

Koutoufdies started with 46, and Chris Bond had 43. Bond was changed to 16 and Kouta moved to 43 and Danny Morgan took on the much prized 46.

Ratten had 40.

Simon Minton-Connell began with 53 after moving up from Tassie. Mark Bouw had 58. When Minton-Connell changed to 29, Bouw took on 58 before handing it over to Andrew Cavedon. When Ratten moved to 7, Cavedon took on 40.

Matthew Allan started with 51.

The only player I have noted who wore a higher number than Bouw was Darren Read who wore 60, alas never for the seniors though.

Another thing I notice is I was very particular in recording players' names, as Hanna and Christou are both recorded as Milham and Angelo as opposed to the more fashionable Mil and Ang which they are called these days.

Didn't Brent Heaver play in #55 before moving to #17?

I think Ang Chritou's name was Evangelis. Correct me if I'm wrong

For what it's worth IIRC Oliver wore number three.

Something like that. I thought once I read in The Age many years ago that his name is D'Angelos, but I think my memory is playing tricks on me.

Definitely Evangelos Christou.

EVANGELOS
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Greek
Other Scripts: Ευαγγελος

Means "good messenger", derived from Greek ευ "good" and αγγελος (angelos) "messenger".

here's an interesting one.... how many players have been recruited straight into the number 1??

Walker did. Steve Silvagni will have too (I imagine).

I was sure Doull pulled on jumper 57 one day in the mid 80s after his #11 was badly torn...

Spot on as usual Brad.

Amazing what you can find when you unhide some columns.

Heaver played 2 games wearing #55

Mark Buckley also wore #55 for 4 games.

Ang Christou wore #56 for 1 game.

Wayne Harmes wore #54 for 1 game.

Mick Kennedy wore #55 for 1 game.

Simon Minton-Connell wore #53 for 1 game.

Most appearances by one number for all Carlton games is for #21 which has appeared 1310 time in a Carlton senior game.

Thanks to Stephen Williamson for the data.
