he looked really sore a few times - just couldn't go physically when he had to though.

(no left foot!!!)

It does feel like every year we're making excuses for Murphy - oh he must be carrying an injury, can't expect him to go in too hard...

He's a silky, smart player, but you have to wonder if maybe he hasn't the physique for the modern game. In a past era, he might have been a champion. But ultimately, you want your captain to be someone strong and tough enough to keep charging into the fray, in addition to tactical smarts and fire in the belly. I agree that Cripps or Doc should be next in line; I see Gibbs as more of a deputy type, Kreuzer has all the attributes but a shaky injury history, and Simmo would be a shoo-in if he was a few years younger.

Excluding yesterday's game, Murphy is our leading vote getter in the AFLCA award.

he's very good at certain aspects ie. linking up..., but at tackling and pressure he's been one of our poorest for some time

I reckon murphs shoulders are knackered and the opposition know it. They barge through his tackles knowing they wont stick.
Has been like that for a while but right now it looks like they are really bothering him.

He runs though. All day. Forward and back. Can see why his GPS ratings are always at the top.

Sadly the young blokes have gone backwards.Fact is,if the bottom six in our team got a tad more of the ball we would have been right in this game.Richmond are so easy to beat yet a win escapes us against this mediocre side.Very deflating. We need ballwinners, simple as that.A tricky dinky touch hear and there dont cut it.Reckon the coach nailed it when he spoke of inconsistency. We had our moments yesterday but not enough.Reckon its about maintaining that consistant effort and no let up.Take your foot off the pedal for a minute these days and they will tare you to shreds...............and to those bagging Graham,Smedts and the like, get along to the magoos and tell me who ya wanna bring up.

Plowman consistently gives away frees and costs us goals, or gets caught holding the ball.
Smedts is a joke. Geelong are laughing at us.

Graham was ok yesterday. Palmer has been doing better than Smedts in the VFL, why wasnt he given the nod?

Never bagged Graham coz i also thought he was ok yesterday.Smedts has been one of our better players at VFL level. But you are correct re Palmer as he is doing ok at VFL and i also would elevate him to the senior side.Getting that balance between youth and toughness is trickey predicament i must admit.I would be bringing up a seasoned player or two myself just to get through the wet and cold Melbourne winter.

Bachar Houli referred direct to Tribunal, striking JLamb. No early plea available.

Hard to fudge a report when he was unconscious before he hit the ground!

Wasn't Plows best game but he got injured early in the first and soldiered on.
Smedts was a bit unlucky yesterday but was just a steak knife in the trade with the Cats. The Cats are laughing at the rest of the league with their home ground gifting them a 3 win head start each season.

I can't see why Geelong are laughing at us. We'll have a gun defender for the next 10 years when Tuohey and Smedts are well retired.

our back line wasn't the problem
we went in with the wrong team and got punished accordingly, we were very stagnate and didn't take the game on
unfortunately i have to say it they out coach us from the beginning and in a way we were flattered by the end result

OMG. The sky's falling. How our team of duds couldn't get closer than 4 goals to a top 6 side is astonishing.

Sakc Bolton.
Sakc Lamb for getting knocked out.
Sakc Williamson, Fisher, Rowe, ASOS, and Sumner for getting injured.
Sakc SOS for recruiting Palmer and Smedts.

Some serious exaggeration in this thread. We didn't play well but that was going to happen.
