i can see pago turning T-Lo into a half back flanker in the same way he has used Houla and Lappo in recent seasons

And Tyrant, we all thought that in 2005 and he still played 10 games, so why should 2006 be any different? He played games after Fisher came back, and we didn't recruit a 2006 star forward did we? Maybe Setanta will compete for the spot but the 2 are very different players.

And we finished last, and had the worst team by a fair way.

I'm not saying Longmuir won't play next year, but he's a long way from being a good footballer. He stays on our list because we were stupid enough a) to trade for him, and b) to give him a 2 year deal (or accept his old deal, or whatever), and too poor to pay out his contract.

If Longmuir plays next year, its because we're in a "transitional phase", and not because he's any good... which he patently isn't.

If Longmuir is our only small forward, then I'd rather play without a small forward, pick someone like Bower to play KP defence, get Lance to play a loose man in defence, and lose with dignity.. than pick Longmuir.

Look, in reality, our list is chock-full of players who just aren't very good. We can sit here in hope and try and pick out their good points, but the fact remains that they're pretty average and will only ever be average. Ironically, a guy like Longmuir might actually be useful for a team with a good list and a premiership shot (because he could sneak on a bag a few goals), but not with us.

There's no tactical reason why we'd retain Longmuir. Davies/Wiggins/Sporn maybe (debatably)... but Longmuir not. His is a "management retention".

I suppose you could say I'm in the "realist" camp, and not the "optimistic" camp.

Doesn't the pessimist always say that they are the realist, in the same way the optimist does, to try to push their view? You may be right Tyrant, and hell I'm not a Longmuir lover, but to write someone off as a management retention when he played 10 games is fanciful. I think Pagan sees something in Longmuir that we don't have, and I think it's his marking ability. Other than Fish or Waite we don't really have it up forward, as Fev is a leader marker and Whitnall can't leave the ground anymore. With this in mind I expect Longmuir to play just as many games in 2006.

if Pagan "sees something" in Longmuir then may God have mercy on us all.....

The most ingenius tanking is when you never meant to do it.... like Tony Shaw, Tim Watson and Danny Frawley. All just totally overrating players, especially ones from other clubs.

The only role Pagan should be grooming Longmuir for is as a paper weight for his desk.

Longmuir might play 10 games next year, but then again, we might finish last and only win 3 games.

You clearly haven't been paying attention. God stopped having mercy on us in 2001.

I was too scared to admit I like Longmuir as a player around molsey and Tyrant in person, they looked like they would beat up the next person who said anything nice about T-Lo. 8)

and we're not really "helping ourselves" with players like Longmuir on the list.

I hope he does prove me wrong.. but 7 or 8 years of consistent mediocrity does not really enthuse me to believe its going to turn around.

he's just not a good player... but, to be fair to him, he's not really alone there.

If you're a young player, now is the best time ever to come to Carlton... because 2/3rds of the players above you are only about 2/3rds as talented.

10 picks in the superdraft, here we come.

Yes. I'm only arguing for him in this instance because I like arguing with Tyrants.

T-Lo may have some deficiencies in his game but this thread is seriously underrating his skills. He is certaily capable of doing the mercurial - our list is not blessed with an abundance of people who can.
He wasn't marched out of the clubs he was previoulsy at. He left Melbourne to play footy with his brother at Freo, and knocked back a 1 year deal at Freo for greater opportunities at the Blues.
He had and injusry last year, and was given a poor run by the Dockers - he is a far better option that Medhurst in my opinion, so as carlton supporters we have not seen the best of him for a long time.
If he turns it on this year he will be more than useful.

Has 2006 left to show that the raps on him are vindicated.Might struggle getting a game in an over stocked forward line.Hope he succeeds.

He'll prove useful in 2006.

So will Chambers.

If they can stay injury free right through the pre season, we'll be able to see what they are really capable of.

There's no doubt about that....

But Chambers i doubt he can have a big impact as he struggles to find the ball...Troy is a ball Magnet!
