A PP is a foregone conclusion now. Just reading the landscape.
Qn now is what pick will it be?
Do we dare to dream?
An early pick would be amazing.
GC get one too for Lynch.
Top four picks...

CFC 1
GC 2
CFC 3
GC 4
...

CFC 23
CFC 26

Watch SOS then trade 1 for 8 & 13.

So we have... 3, 8, 13, 22, 26.

Use all picks bar one on mids.

Use the other pick on a key defender.

We get Ben for free too.

The AFL should be talking to Carlton about whatever they need to get through this period.

A bad Carlton is bad for the AFL and other clubs count on our crowds and ratings for their own success. eg The Bulldogs would have budgeted for a home game against a Carlton/Ess/Coll/Rich to attach a level of media interest, crowd attendance, income and TV rating etc. If they are budgeting the gate takings for 60,000 and only 25,000 turn up, they are also in big trouble.

Carlton needs to be competitive, nothing more.

And for the moaners who say Carlton brought this onto themselves, it's interesting that the other clubs are staying silent. Why? Because the AFL and the other clubs are watching with great interest whether this "rebuild" idea is workable.

The difficulty is Carlton's injuries have clouded the result and we still can't identify Carlton's best 22 players, and what they still need.

If Carlton wins, 8-10 matches next year, you watch the Norths and Freos of the competition sudden announce "rebuilds".

Was that on On The Couch? What else did they have to say. I turned it off when they started talking about the high flying Essendon* :vomit:

Roos thought it was silly that you have to actually apply for PP. He thinks the AFL should just issue picks where needed. They all think there should be a properly constructed system for getting picks. Jonno Brown thinks we should absolutely get a pick as it definitely helped Lions to improve.

Not directed at you Wet Willie but exactly which priority pick recipients haven't bought it onto themselves?
Do people think God bought it upon them? Perhaps aliens? :?
I'm confused by the assertion.
The recipients of last years No.1 pick in the draft bought it upon themselves. Were they pressured to knock it back?

Each club has bought it on themselves ... but, imo there is also a responsibility here from the AFL. no matter what the afl's intentions are, they have made the league a top heavy one.

thanks to FA and players taking pay cuts to win a flag; teams at the top stay there much longer at the expense of rebuilding clubs. and it's bad for business having teams anchored at the bottom of the ladder for a decade while they undertake a rebuild and wait for all of those 18 year old high draft picks to add weight before they can power along in the afl.

the afl built the framework and if you're a law abiding club, it's quite dire once you bottom out and have to build everything from the ground up. you watch geelong over the next few years. they'll lose those last remaining premiership players and drop off the map ... and all that draft day trading of getting in ready-made players at the expense of ticking over their list through the draft, catches up with them.

they'll be the new carlton ... and just like when we went down. it'll be bad for afl business without a success team from the surf peninsula.

on a bit of a tangent here; but expansion at a time when successful clubs were having to profit share and hand over their hard earned money to the afl to divvy up and spread out to the struggling clubs, was the very worst thing the afl ever did.

it took from the earned and gave it to the undeserved. it diluted the talent pool and for all bottom & declining teams at the time, it penalised them by handing out their draft picks to the new teams.

I don't buy the whole 'they must ask' bit. I'm convinced the rules would state that draft order is ultimately at the discretion of the AFL.

It does...you are right...it is there above posted by Effes..and shown last night on OTC. However, the AFL house are still insisting that we must apply.
I'm thinking we might get 2 picks, given the dire situation.

Hope so, it would be negligent of the AFL otherwise.
Meanwhile it's a controversial topic that appeals to the media and keeps the circus going, we just have to cope.
AFL are fully aware of the negative repercussion to the whole competition having an important brand limping along.

If the club does write to the AFL, I'd like them to publish the letter on the clubs website.

It's in the clubs best interests to put in some official paperwork. Brisbane applied in 2015 and were rejected. They applied again in 2016 and received the priority pick (19).

Commission Chairman (Richard Goyder): 'Agenda item 7. Special Assistance. Gillon - do we have any applications for Rule 19?'
Gillon McLachlan: 'No Richard. There has been speculation Carlton may need special assistance, but we haven't received any paperwork from them'.
Richard Goyer: 'Do we view their predicament as serious as Brisbane from a few years ago'
Gillon McLachlan: 'Very different circumstances. It's well documented that Carlton are attempting a list rebuild. They've had significant injuries to their core playing list and the loss of senior players via trade has not assisted their ladder position. Brisbane struggled to retain talented youngsters. Jared Polec, Sam Docherty, Billy Longer and Elliott Yeo as examples all left due to homesickness. Their 2015 application was rejected. We believe we've now got that culture right and offering them a priority pick in 2016 on the back of their strong application was the right move to strengthen their draft position. Their application for a priority pick in 2017 was rejected.'
Richard Goyer: 'Ok. So your recommendation comes without any supporting documentation from the club itself. Does anyone else have any questions for Gillon regarding Rule 19?...'
*crickets*
'...ok - Gillon?
Gillon McLachlan: 'We recommend no special assistance this year. Discussions we've had with members of the Carlton board and CEO indicate that they believe they're on the right track.'
Richard Goyer: 'Ok. Next agenda item...'

Not what I believe...but this is the AFL we're dealing with. Swallow your pride Carlton...put in the/some paperwork.

why cant we keep some of our business private?

i cant see why shareholders or members of organisations need to know every strategic move made behind closed doors.

Having worked at Executive level in a Public Listed Company, if we had told the stakeholders everything there's no way known the Company (which wasn't making much money) would have sold for over a Billion dollars, (and I wouldn't have been in a position to cash in my options).

Wins losses green shoots and forecasts are good to know.

If we put forward a strong submission, public pressure on the AFL will increase which is to our advantage.

how are you all?
how are the wife and kids?
Just wondering,

that would be really good.
thanks,
love
Carlton. xx

If history is any indication, the Commission meeting to determine this will be held on the first Thursday after the Grand Final, which this year will be October 4. So we've only got 73 days to find out...or 1750 hours...or 300 more pages of this thread... :|
