It was a very sad game to watch.
We have brought in 2 A grade running defenders, failed to address our midfield issues and now we have a team that not only lacks structure but is not drilled at all. I lost count the amount of times players ran off the mark to corral empty space that was never going to be used, giving the Eagles an easy out every time.
Sorry to say it but the writing is on the wall, the players have lost confidence in the coach.
Maybe today was a message from the playing group after Liddle backed in Teague this week.
Either way, here we go again.

You’re awesome . If every fan did that, you could really destroy this club.

I’m as pissed as anyone, but punishing the club is hardly the way to improve it.

His mumbo jumbo about lightbulbs going on seems ludicrous now. We are so far away from lightbulbs Teague, we are struggling to make fire with wood.

Who would have thought a game plan based on 16 half back flankers wouldn't work.
I'm sure we could try Betts down there by the time this year ends, heck we even put Ed down there this game.
Amazing and ahead of the game David

Not sure Lyon is the right person with the new attacking way the game seems to be trending towards.

Don Pyke probably the pick or Adam Yze if we go untried again (with Brad Scott or Justin Leppitsch).

Lyon or his ilk would demand accountability and commitment.

Therefore our players would regress further.

Length post but perhaps some logic may come from it... let's have a look at the coaching panels of the top 8 teams after this round:

Melbourne
Simon Goodwin, Alan Richardson, Adam Yze, Troy Chaplin, Greg Stafford, Mark WIlliams

Western Bulldogs
Luke Beveridge, Steven King, Rohan Smith, Ash Hansen, Jamie Maddocks, Travis Varcoe

Geelong
Chris Scott, Nigel Lappin, Matthew Knights, Matthew Scarlett, Corey Enright, Shaun Grigg

Brisbane
Chris Fagan, Mark Stone, Murray Davis, Dale Tapping, Ben Hudson, Jed Adcock, Scott Borlace

Port Adelaide
Ken Hinkley, Michael Voss, Jarrad Schofield, Nathan Bassett, Brent Montgomery, Chad Cornes, Trent Hentschel

Sydney
John Longmire, Dean Cox, Jarrad McVeigh, Don Pyke, Ben Matthews

West Coast
Adam Simpson, Adrian Hickmott, Jaymie Graham, Luke Webster, Gavin Bell, Mark Nicoski, Kyal Horsley

Richmond
Damien Hardwick, Andrew McQualter, Adam Kingsley, Xavier Clarke, Ivan Maric, Sam Lonergan

A couple of obvious things stand out for me - players recently retired as assistant coaches who have had success on the field or been involved in a team that often made the finals.

The head coaches I would be somewhat fearful of and wouldn't want to cop a spray after a bad game... Chris Fagan is the exception as he seems to be calm on the surface but has a playing squad that is willing to win and try their best for the coach - you can see it clearly when they have a great win and how involved the coach is with the group.

Some of us will say it won't matter who steps in after David Teague is shown the door - but looking at the list above the top teams seem to be doing a lot right with who they have on their coaching staff, not just during this year but many of these teams have had regular appearances in finals and also finishing top 4.

Average loss of 31pts since 2019.

He has made us competitive, just needs to show he can take us to that next stage. 10-12 wins is what I expected this year, and is the watermark for a pass.

I can also see he is starting to phase out Casboult now The King is back, although no idea what they were thinking last week. Murphy dropped as well was a great sign.

Owies, Cots, Stocker all getting reward for effort in the VFL this year, another positive.

It’s simply what we do when we don’t have the ball and the control of play is in the oppositions hands that needs to be addressed. Fix that and we become a finals team. From there we can build towards top 4 and competing for a Premiership.

Casbolt has had woeful form this year and I love the guy so isn’t easy to watch. Had negative AF points during one game from clangers and no possessions.

Has barely been able to take an uncontested mark all year. Let alone get to one on the lead. Kicking yips are back.

Has to be injured.

but we had no spare talls so played him anyway to trick opposition clubs who don’t watch videos of their opponents precious games. ;-)

And probably this is smashing his confidence. Get him right and if he plays play him in twos until he demands selection. If we play with all small forwards plus JSOS and H then so be it. Owies and Betts at least have game craft.

What happened to “selection pressure” and “destination club” Mr Teague?

Fagan is a seriously angry dad when it’s not going well too, have seen him give some epic sprays on the boundary line Malthouse style

Teague >>> Goodwin (fingers crossed)

I’d take that if we had the equivalent of Williams (fantastic at Dees) and Yze if it’s Yze with the smarts (I’ll take your word for it). Teague is good he usually knows exactly where we won or lost the game afterwards.

But he’s tactically got us wide open in defence, kickouts and midfield turnovers where we often get pants when a miss kick or handball lands with an unmarked opposition player. Hurts psychologically. It’s like, shit here we go. The commentators get so revved up bc they know how vulnerable we can be when not playing tight and tough football (which we can just not for long enough).

And he plays a cameo player like Murphy every week but one (and then he subbed in) and keeps Dow out to “work on his game and running patterns” or some $#!¥.

We'll be having these same conversations in 2 years about his replacement, unless we fix the whole setup.

Barker and Stanton have to go, at the very least. Our midfield craft is abhorrent.

Stanton. Haha. Dons planned him as a double-coach to troll us. Haha.

The club needs to make a decision now. If Teague is determined as the man to take us forward he needs competent staff around him. If we aren't already, we need to identify who these people are and somehow convince them to come on board.

If we don't see Teague as the man to take us forward, we need to move him on. No point wasting 2022 just going through the motions.

What’s woosher supposed to be doing? Evaluating who get the move on and what we need in the new assistants?
