Agree. But is does leave us exposed for a lack of size down back. On the narrower Marvel ground this may not be such an issue as it is easier to help one another down back.
But as BV stated, if we win the midfield battle it will matter even less.
But I would expect Port to play a high pressing game around the ball and try to get our key backs and their forwards 1on1 in their F50.
Their midfielders wont be as easy to brush aside as in the past 3 rounds.

We've ben playing a short backline since Kemp took Young's spot.

Gov is 190, Marchbank 193, Kemp 193.....none really tall, if anything Gov makes us short.

Finlayson 197 93 kg..........
Marshall 198 94 kg.........

SPP 187 but a 100 kg bull... Newman 80kg, Cincotta 86kg

Dixon 200 110 kg.............belongs to Weitering

SOS is taller than Marchbank ... lol
As much as I like Marchbank, I think we have to play Young.

I can't believe Dixon's 110 kegs. For some very strange reason I keep seeing him and the other boys around the traps when I'm in Adelaide - and I've been there a fair bit over the last 6 months - and each time I think to myself he's not as built as you think. Same goes for Allir Allir too btw. Tall yes, but not especially huge.

Incidentally he's also a pretty good bloke, very approachable and friendly despite the weird ink seems down to Earth.

Anyway, I hope Weiters towels Dixon up

They're not as big as you thought coz youre 198cm

They are huge when I stand next to them.
I remember walking to the car a coupla times with Alir after a game at the Swans, and he was huge.
Funny, at that time of night after the game, lights are out and this spread of white teeth looked like shooting stars from my height...I'm 178 ish cm

Kemp is the worry

Let's be honest he was really poor last game

It'll be hard to keep those 3 talls in check

I was at the game and I didn't notice him being poor - I thought he was serviceable at worst. Perhaps you saw things on TV that weren't obvious live?

With the better structured game style we are playing at the moment, I am not too concerned about their talls, we just need to limit their supply.

Kemp is now an important part of our back 6 and if McGovern is out this week, then we can absolutely not afford to drop him. We need someone who can intercept and take the game on.

I reckon we will have to stick with Young as our other tall defender and hope TDK comes up.

He's coming along well but he had numerous poor moments. Went to ground several times leaving his opponent unmanned and had a bad turnover in the middle of the ground. Fortunately Freo didn't capitalise on many but he'd want to tighten it up against the good teams. I've been impressed with his body work against the bigger opponents though. It would be great to see him become a regular in our back 7.

Stuffed if I can figure out how to embed the video, but Tarczon’s hit on McKenna is at 3.30ish.

I’ll tell you this much for nothing, if the bump is dead then watching this will make you want to torch the bones & salt the ashes.

Hopefully Lycett doesn’t come up. Their blokes will take advantage of hitouts to advantage. We’ll be working hard just to lay a glove on them, never mind trying to shark hitouts.

I never like making changes to skirt around the things we’re doing wrong… but, I wonder if Binns is a chance, just to give us a bit more running power to at least hold territory after the inevitable forced turnovers?

That same crutch is argument for Young at CHB. The style we’re playing is vulnerable to chains off turnovers. There WILL be one-on-one contests for their talls.

Marshall’s strength is his mobility and arms outstretched on a lead. Dixon is a wrestler. Finlayson is a bit of both. The latter pair are the ones that catch you out. Weiters can’t be in two places at once.

I'm with you in this game Cru.

Port will try and isolate Kemp and Gov with their opponent. I'd like to see Young take Marshall.

I’d like to see Young nowhere near the backline

i second this

I'm not 198 :donk:

Alir smiles a lot. Every time you look he's smiling.

Speaking of Alir, and back to the match.... he plays a really really simply role. He plays loose mostly, and is instructed to position himself 35-40m away from ball carrier in a straight line between the carrier and the goalface. Simple intercept role.

We need to separate Charlie and Big H as much as possible, and our F50 entries need to work the angles outside of Alirs zone.

Voss would know this of course. He has great IP on that team's structure and limitations. Hopefully he can disrupt them enough to give us a shot

People keep saying we need size to match up on them. What about exposing them? They are tall but so were Freo last week. Our smaller defence gives us more run and flexibility. Yet we rarely get out marked. That is because we defend well, have pressure up the field and work well as a group. We are also now playing a 7th defender to block up space

Over the past month we have restricted scores better than the last 2 years and are creating run and attack from defence. We are combining perfectly

Why change it to suit the opposition? Let them chase us

Tell me why I had to be Port Power slave
I don't wanna die, I'm a god
Why can't I live on?
When the Life Giver dies
All around is laid waste
And in my last hour
I'm a slave to Port Power of Death
Slave to Port Power of Death
Slave. To Port Power. Of. Death!!!!!

I hope I'm wrong but the more and more I think about it, I think we will get outclassed and lose by 4-5 goals.

Not that we will do badly and not bring our form into the game, it's just that they're a class above at the moment and in their window, whereas we are still building and developing.

I'm not buying into the "they're due for a loss" narrative, if anything they've been average for the last month and kept winning, they are due to put in a blinder and blow us off the park.

Prove me wrong Blues!

Agreed with playing to our strengths . They're a better team than us so if we play to theirs it's a guaranteed loss. Playing our way may lead to victory or a heavier defeat, but we have to back ourselves if we're to have any chance of finals.

I think our chances rest with Mackay & Curnow. If one of them can kick 5 we are a real show.

But Port's midfield troubles me big time
