the real mismatch against richmond was not teague, rather it was their centre square against ours.

that same centre square was there in the return match - but the plan had changed by then - we had a forward line in the next game. admittedly they were missing brown

But according to the naysayers Pagan only has one plan. How can this be so?

so the centre square had changed and what players did we bring in, move out of the square etc?

oh and that forward line that was improved was that the one where we moved lance out of - played him back I think, needed some height down there or something.... Course it helped having Fish available too.

He forced into change - the injury to Fev- the lack of defence forced him to set up different . Went back to his old ways against Essendon*

If I get time Danny I will go back and watch the tapes and give you a full detailed report if you like. From memory whitnal - campo and mcgrath were moved back Fish was included and they played with a six man forward set up for most of the game with longmuir also providing options up forward .

In the first game he tried to take them on with an open running game instead of shutting them down when they started to get a run on

Back I think- but that besides the point its the set up and style of game I'm talking about. When we elected to shut sides down and scrap we were competitive - when we went open and direct with the paddock we got smashed . Stevens - Whitnal and campo spent most of the year down back covering blokes like Houlahan and Scotland while our AA Half back flanker sat somewhere near the forward pocket sulking

see you take both games and say all the faults are his all the pluses were forced upon him.

I take the view that denis makes mistakes (as do players) and learns, he is also evolving this team, campo was slowly pushed as far out of that centre square as possible, Lance was moved away from CHF, Fish gave us mobility (with Waite and Longmuire) and a bloke that could mark overhead. With french in after his injury we also had a bit more height to toss around, add Bentick and Carrots into that centre mix and we slowly turned things around.

As for Essendon* game - a shocker, an order from above, a plan to land Murph? a bit of all three plus a few lads (young bods and all) getting awfully tired)?

we'll never know about that game.

Thing I liked though was that from watching the replays over summer we ended a far better team than we started and when developing a young, inexperienced team thats what I look for in a coach. In fact in some games we began to actually look a bit faster, a bit more lethal with our movement of the ball.

We all know that this rebuilding will take time - anyone who thought we'd turn it around in three was being silly or extremely hopeful, truth is Wallsey and other experts knew we were looking at 7 years just to make the list competitive again.

As far as i can figure the biggest @#$%&! up of Pagan's was to do so well two yuears ago and secure 10 wins with a shit list. But hey, i was wrapt with each and every one of those wins so I am not so down on him.

He should have been AA when he kicked 49 goals in 2003 but was Skinny was AA as a running half back in 2004. He still kick 20 goals that year like in 2005 even though he wasn't played as a stay at home forward. :)

Lappin should have made AA a few years ago as a FP, but he didn't.

He was an AA in 2004 as a HBF.

He played that position for us all year, and he was named in that position for the AA team.

That aside, can the mods please rename this thread "Pagan bashing thread number xxxx" (or whatever number thread we are up to).
