Boyd for Marchbank would be my pick although it does leave us a bit short

Marchbank had some shocking moments but did make some important intercept marks in the second half. I think he has to stay in, our backline would get killed in the air.

I kind of like the idea of Fisher dropping to sub for Boyd, but it's hard for the MC to look a guy with 30+ possessions and rated one of the best on ground, and tell him "you're cut" after one game. So Boyd as sub seems likely.

But let's wait and see who gets crocked at training this week.

No Petty for them is a big loss - they have to rejig their forward line again

Fisher's run will be important against the Dees whether he plays at HB or the Wing. It will be madness to drop him after last week's performance.


I rate Marchbank higher than Boyd only because he is a much better intercept marker and can play tall. I would only Drop Marchbank if McGovern is ready to return.


Best solution is to bring back Boyd and play him as a Sub.

Boyd is Best 22 and will be fresh. He needs to come in and get up to speed asap. Playing him as a sub is a waste.

Saad is playing sore so may be an option to rest. Fogarty had a quiet game but plays a role. Cincotta has been good without starring.

I don't know who goes out but they will be unlucky. Even tougher with Walsh Cerra Kennedy McKay Silvagni all back over next 2-3 weeks

It's a good problem to have. I would go no change unless there's an injury. Fisher was a revelation at half back early and they all played their role in the second half.

If Fisher stays he can’t play half back again, that sort of trick only works once. I’ve no idea who we could drop for him, he doesn’t tackle well enough to replace Fog.

Melbourne wont double team Curnow like Saints did imo.
May could do the job on his own. One on One. Strong boy.
Its when Curnow runs off him is where our boy has the advantage.

Dees go man on man then do their thing from there.
Lever will leave his man if his man is too far away to do any damage on scoreboard he'll leave him to stay close to May.
Maybe that's what we are expecting, and play same game as 2nd half vs Saints, 1 spare (Fisher) behind the ball

We can beat these guys if we bring that 2nd half set up.

Cripps, Hewett, will hurt Viney and Oliver if he plays.
They need Petracca in the midfield against our mob and that's one less danger up forward.
Doch gives that group something special, tough and a ball winner and good defensive mid.

I can't see them risking Oliver for a top of the Form Guide battle.

Can't see us losing against Dees. Bring them on.

Win this and we can dare to dream just a little. Could dare to dream alot more if we were top 4 but when your the form side of the competition you can dare to dream a little at least. Anyway, best we win this first.

Although they've been winning Melbourne's form line for their last 4 games hasn't been fantastic.

Brisbane lead them for most of their game before self destructing
Adelaide they beat narrowly at the G
Richmond were the better side for most of their game
The Roos got out to a lead against them

I mean good teams will make him accountable, I think Boyd is better suited to a rebounding half back role as he has a defensive side.

Maybe it will work again, but it’s a risky play I wouldn’t be relying on for finals footy.

In terms of Boyd, would he be preferred over Cincotta?

In terms of the Dees, I think they will play Oliver.
But I am most concerned about Viney, Petracca & Melksham. And of course Gawn.
Viney - I reckon Hewitt goes to him. Big job to quell his influence but if we can do so, it stops them at the source.
Petracca - Newman might be able to do a job on him when he is forward but might be confusing as he switches midfield/forward.
Melksham - he is no Petracca but has been important to them in the last few weeks. Need someone just to stop him getting annoying easy shots at goal. This could be Cincotta's role if he stays in the team or possibly Saad. Except I wouldn't want to limit Saad's run by having him stick close to Melksham. Maybe Boyd?
And I would be challenging TDK to take it up to Gawn around the ground and following up at stoppages.

Weirdly, I feel like Melbourne are gettable and I'm almost more concerned about Gold Coast the following week.
Just imagine the media meltdown if we beat 3 of the top 4 teams within the last month!
Of course, if that happens it will be because of the umpires, or training loads, or unwarranted frees to Charlie or.... whatever helps them to sleep better at night.

In Finals, if we play Fisher as the spare man in defense again, the opposition will have a quality spare man loose somewhere else. Someone else's nightmare further up the ground. I've seen that movie before.

I doubt Fish will be in the team when our stars return, one by one over the next couple of weeks.

Boyd is 182, Cincotta 186, Melksham 186 with a long arm reach.
Wouldnt waste Saady on Melksham. He's Cinc's boy. Cinc releases Doc into the midfield group.

A Dees mate in the Coterie group at Dees says Oliver is s starter this week. Lets hope he's rusty.

Hewett is in fantastic form.

Same. They've been winning but don't think they've been super impressive. Gave north a big start the other day. Thought their first half against tiggers week before was average. They're just travelling IMO. If we play at the same level we've been playing in recent weeks and they play the same level they've been playing, we'll win.
