Hi all,

I'm going to the opener against Geelong at TD. I noticed it's a double-header with Hawks v Tiges on a few hours earlier. My brother's a Hawks fan and my brother-in-law is a tiger fan, so i wouldnt mind taking them to that game then staying on and forcing them to watch the Carlton game (which we all know will be a far superior match).

My question is whether anyone knows if it's a 2-for-1 deal - buy your ticket for the day and see both matches? The games are that close together that I can't see them emptying the stadium so quickly.

I couldnt find any info on the AFL website or the TD website. Does anyone know?

From the AFL members email:

In a unique double header of Aussie Rules on Saturday 25th February, Hawthorn clashes against Richmond at 4.10pm in the first game of the afternoon, whilst Geelong will take on last year's Pre-Season Premiers, Carlton at 7.40pm. Patrons attending the first match of the day will be able to remain in their seats for the second match at no extra cost.

Whilst the idea itself is not too bad, surely they've chosen the wrong two games to trial it. You'd expect both mathes could draw 35,000+ each seeing how they are the first real opporunity for fans to see a game for the season.

You could understand if it was say Richmond v Freo in the first match, but to have 4 Victorian sides is not the smartest thing in my book.

Do they get 35,000+ crowds to matches in the first round of the pre-season cup? How many were there at last year's match against Essendon*? (I don't know as I wasn't there - the only match of the WC I missed.)

welcome to the site BUT you're kidding aren't you!

the preseason cup and the AFL would be stoked with a 35K total attendance i reckon.

last year they had the double header 27,000 turned up

they counted 10,000 during the swans dogs game, then a total of 27,000 for the siants hawks game latter in the evening.

of that 27,000 you'd expect atleast 5,000 of those attended the first game.

Carlton and Essendon* attracted just 23,000.

they would be lucky to get 45,000 people through the gates all day and i doubt all of them will be there at once. not that many people will be there for the first bounce at the first game and still there at the final siren of the second.

With pies at $19.60 each and beers $22.70, I don't think they'll give a flying one if 12 people turn up

Most of his solo career is shite (songs above included), but I bought the Petrolhead album. Back to a more bluesy, hard rock feel and much better than the soft rock crap of his earlier solo career. A few tracks on that album written by Don Walker too, IIRC.

Its a bar not much bigger than a phone booth, BV. The extra room is for the Choirboys who are the back-up band!

Ah well, as they say, Boys will be Boys.

It used to, but it didn't last year. Not sure if it has changed back to including one free pre-season game?
