Houla is a receiver and we all know he has no balls. BUT, with AB and Blackwell ready to step into the team on a more permanent basis as the hard nuts, there is no reason why Houla cant be used as a receiver. He has the foot skills and when he is kicking into the foward line you can almost always back that it is going to hit Fev on chest. Look at the Port and Bulldogs game for an example.
He also knows where the goals are aswell and if he gets in space inside 50, more often than not he will drill it.
Look what Peter Burgoyne did to us in the last game we played them, he killed us and IMO, Houla can play the same type roll and do it well.

But Houla, please take note, if its your turn to go in, GO IN!!!!

Uh oh, is he going to Torino 2006?

Can he win it? Don't think so
Is he good value? Yes. At $1,000-1 he is worth a nibble

Already on 1AW at $1,000-1 (Maybe a year or two early), might have to have an investment on Hoops too.

Best move yet by Pagan.
As someone else has mentioned, a year or two too late, but lets hope it happens. He is the perfect support for Stevens and is also a goal kicking midfielder  With Bentick, Scotland and Koutoufides feeding it out, but not having the pace to break away, I'm more than happy to see Houlihan, Walker, Murphy and even Betss rotating through middle/forward.

Hope im wrong, but if Houla turns into an A grade midfielder then i will bare my you no what in Bourke St.Hasnt got the motor for it,hasnt got the toughness for it,hasnt got the mobility for it,and more importantly, hasnt got the ball winning ability for it.
Houla on his day,is a devastating HFFlanker oppurtunist who will shread you when he gets going.Thats what he is full stop.Plenty to whack in the guts before Houla. When Pagan talks about Houla in the guts i become seriopusly worried about our decision makers. Are they with it or are they in ga ga land.

I'm with Mick....no hope of being a genuine midfielder, handy B Grade finisher is Houlihan but lets not get carried away..we want Murphy,Blackwell, Bentick, Walker, Simpson etc where the action is and Houlihan on the end of their work sticking it down Fevs throat or through the goals.
Peter Burgoyne is a better player than Houlihan and quicker thats why he plays in the middle....
Rather put my $10 on a Tattslotto ticket..the odds are better

Houlihan to win the Brownlow??? BWAHAHAHAHA!!! I'll be happy if sometime this year he wins a contested possession! At 1000-1 I guess you're not losing much. Judd is an early tip but I guess there's no great surprise there. I reckon the Hopps to the middle is some of Dennis' famous 'Ducks & Drakes'. I'd rather see 1AW or MM get a run through the middle.

Dont you all love the pre-season, Houlihan for the Brownlow?? I guess there were a few people put money on Callum Chambers last year and that went well :? :? so who knows?

Its pretty stupid to compare Chambers to Houlihan.Chambers lacks class.Houlihan might sleep with the light on but has class when he gets it.

$10 on Houla for the brownlow. I'd rather set the tenner on fire. Much more enjoyable.

Houlas skills and decision making when he has time are sublime. houlas skills while under pressure are B grade. If we can knock a bit of grunt into him and toughen him up then he would be nothing less than an A grade player. Pagan has been talking him up so maybe it will be the incentive that he needs.

i was at that game at the g when we had port on toast, burgoyne was unstoppable that day, too fast, too strong, too skillful

I cant remember who we tried to play on him .. but they all got smashed

if houla can get anywhere near the burgoyne output then that will be a major plus !

.. go houla ..

.. go blues ..

You can build players up, you can work on their pace and you can build their endurance.
You cant substitute class and skill.
Houlihan has more class and skill than 95% of our list.
He just needs the mental toughness to go with it. I believe he can become a quality outside midfielder.
His work below his knees is as good as anyone in the AFL and he never double grabs the ball.

He needs confidence, belief from the coach and a desire to succeed.
The 3rd one is the only thing that will stop him going on with it.

You forgot to add :

You can't give a guy some 'ticker' if he hasn't already got it.

Is the club still on notice Sheik? You can't have much if you are willing to 'urge people to not buy their membership' just cos you havn't got the ticker to pull through our darkest days.

I've already put my hard-earned $2.50 each-way on both Houla & Walker. Likely to be a silly bet but I couldn't resist the crazy 1000-1 odds currently available at www.centrebet.com.au

Heath Scotland at 330-1 is better value :P
