I still love watching this guy play footy...fair dinkum guys he has given Sticks a massive rap here and you are shitting on what he has said!!! Every time he represented our jersey he gave 100%, he is not one of the most gifted guys to ever play the game but surely he is one who gave everything he had every time he got the opportunity!!! I salutes ya Sammy, thanks for giving me plenty to cheer about when you played for the Old dark Navies...just wish you hadnt chosen to play for the Aints!!! Go Blues!!! By the way fellas, I still believe he wouldnt have left except for Jack on that fateful presentation night, now that is a bloke who does have a lot to answer for!!!!

I agree with Deano - F@&K HIM!!!

But history will show that it was probably a wise move as the corresponding graphs of both clubs have been in opposite directions shorlty after his departure. Although we do have the same amount of silverware since then - one Wizzer cup each (although we have a couple more spoons!)

But yeah.... F@#K HIM!!!

We know who Jamie Oliver calls when he runs out of "wooden spoons" as we certainly can't supply the quantity he usually wants - but with 24 or so in their kitchen drawer - the Saints always can fulfil his order.

I actually agree with Hamill. Dont get me wrong I still think he's a b@stard for leaving as he was one of my favourite players at Carlton. But imagine
Carlton had the rotation policy when Sticks first joined.

"Sorry Sticks, your were a great Captain this year but it's Ian Aitken's turn to be Captain..."

He paid Kernahan a compliment and and praised him for being a good captain and he is right ...players evolve a round a good leader. I'm not a supporter of the rotation policy..if Thomas had any brains he would make Hamill captain. Money issues aside I lament the loss of Hamill and if I could steal him back of the Saints I would.

The game is evolving and will become like others sports where you have
your long term clubmen and then you have your hired guns.....your hired guns get the big money to perform and you know where you stand..they perform or you move them on...no tears from either party..its a business deal only. Doull , SOS..great clubmen...Craig Bradley..hired gun...Greg Williams...hired gun, Nick Stevens...hired gun......

I dont/didnt expect loyalty from Hamill..just results...we didnt want to pay his asking price fine he moves on...end of story...

If Kosi has taken our 500k a year deal would that have made him a scumbag..nope...just another hired gun...

Maybe a couple of years ago, but these last couple of seasons he's struggled to stay fit. The way he plays means he'll not be playing far into his 30's.

Exactly right Wojee, its because of the way he plays (whole hearted, everthing is done at 100%)...thats why I loved the guy.

Couldn't agree more. I like many was absolutely fuming when he hit the bricks, but in the cold hard light of day it happens to every club and no one has probably benefitted more from this than us.

I like having the one captain and I would hate it if Carlton adopted the rotating captaincy. It takes the honour and pride out of being captain if everyone gets a go.

Perhaps I should start a nice new thread comparing Hamill to Campo?

can I field this one?

Not if I was playing football for the club I followed as a kid growing up, and was recently bestowed with the honour of wearing the number proudly worn by the greatest captain ever to play the game.

Maybe the legends numbers need to be handed out to those who earn them over time rather than first up to unproven players regardless of their promise or where they are taken in the draft....

He may not be playing into his 30s - but the Aints will be paying when he's into his 30s. IIRC he's going into his 3rd year of a 5 year contract    .

He's a silly bugger who obviously could've been a great 5-6 year captain if at Carlton or anywhere else.

It's a dumb policy and one that doesn't reward champions of the game, and, as has been said, gives no stability for young blokes coming through the system.

Captaincy isn't the be-all and end-all of sport - not every member of the team has to benefit from it - but every team-member needs to benefit from good solid leadership.

They deserve eachother!!

Agreed - although Sydney's '3 Captains' policy might be interesting.

Yep, because that worked so well for somewhone who shall remain nameless... *cough*AaronfuckingHamill*cough*. I reckon if you hand a 'historic' jumper to a young player would instill more respect for the navy blue into them. But that's just me.
