The new tennis season has started for me at Parkville Tennis Club for Netsports and Maxwell Gratton is the organiser. I find this funny, cos I thoght this dude had a lot of $$$ and was building a case to save Optus Oval?

If he has this money, why is he working at a community tennis club for Netsports. Surely it can't be paying much and what's in it for him.

Oh yeah, btw, he's a bit of a flower also.

He must'nt have the cash he proclaimed to have had? :?

Every time you see him, call him a flower for me.

Maxwell was the Liberal Party's lower house candidate for the seat of Batman in the last federal election. It shows that Maxwell likes taking on lost causes because Batman is one of the safest Labor seats in Australia.
Having said that, he's sort of been proved right on the Optus Oval issue.
Geelong has dramatically turned around their financial fortunes in recent years and they still play the majority of their home games at Skilled Stadium, a ground with a smaller capacity than Optus Oval/Princes Park.

Wow... how many times must we say this BUT geelong got a huge state govt handout because its in the city of Geelong.. and its good for local business... last time i looked Carlton wasnt a regional town.

Also.. why do you want Carlton playing in front of 30k???? thats nopt how you grow a club.....

Really? Who does your premier barrack for?

Maybe Beattie should look at dishing the Lions some sweet as funds!

Had the Melbourne City Council in conjunction with the State government funded a multi million dollar redevelopment of our ground, we might have considered it.........oh, plus had the AFL agreed to schedule some games there..............................oh, plus had we survived without the cash injection from TD and the AFL, we could have stayed.......oh, plus had we absorbed the 2.5 million loss another year at OO would have burdened us with, we could have stayed.
Not to mention increased FTA coverage, exposure for sponsors.

Max could have been proved right if he wasnt so wrong.

BV we shouldnt let the facts come in the way of a really good story....

Plus the crowds at Optus were at around the 20,000 mark.. pretty pitiful if you want to be a powerhouse again...

What's to hair split...there either was a handout or there wasn't.

If there was...spill.

If there wasn't...why make shit up?

Because the Geelong Football Club is culturally essential to the region.
It is the hub of the city.
Conversely the yuppies in Carlton and in the MCC wanted us out of there.
