'Best' is an adjective...isn't it? :?

OK, let's be difficult then.

When you read the papers and see Camporeale as the Best player, does that mean that he was our most effective, highest possession winner, or had the biggest impact? Or do you not look in the Best in the paper because this has not represented who you thought was the Best?

It's not that hard.

OK mols....my memories of Adrian Bassett are that he was drafted from Coburg in the VFA in the 1990 pre season draft....Pick No.13.

Bassett: DOB: 11-03-67......186cm and 81kg....31 games and 12 goals.

I can recall him in guernsey #47, and he was a rangy, red headed wingman and a left footer who kicked some valuable goals for us.

Also in the same draft was Tim Rieniets from the same team...Coburg (via Wang.Rovers) at pick No.27.

He was a utility: DOB: 14-04-66...183cm and 79 kg..24 games and 6 goals.....I'm pretty sure he wore # 36.

I think Bassett was the one of those two who I thought may make it.

Thanks Warby. You're a great man. Any reason why you don't want to assist the Blueseum rather than through me?

Anyway - Bassett looks like he wore #37, but I thought I remembered him as having curly dark hair, almost girly curly dark hair. Is this right?

reiniets? No idea who he is or was!

Adrian Bassett had a dark mullet perm from memory - Rienits had the ginger.

I remember Bassett taking a chest mark while sitting on his bum after a wrestle in the goalsquare at the Lygon St end of OO - made it on to one of channel sevens highlight reels that they used to show at the end of broadcasts.

Pretty sure they wore numbers 36 (Rienits) and 37 (Bassett).

Bassett definitely had dark hair, was a left footer and played and looked alot like Christou just nowhere near as good.

Yes mols....Bassett did have dark hair....I thought it was reddish; perhaps it wasn't.....the memory sometimes.

I have an 1987 Grand Final Record in front of me, and it shows among other things the Carlton GF Reserves side that played St.Kilda that day.

Guess what?....Adrian Bassett was named in that squad wearing guernsey No.47.

Listed that day as 20....185cm-79kg from Castlemaine.

It's the only number I can recall him wearing but.....I'm probably wrong.

By the way; I'll help as I can, it's difficult as it's always a lack of time that's the problem.

Oh, alright molsey. Yes I do read the 'best' Carlton players in the newspapers; almost religiously. I especially like it when up-and-comers are named as it augurs well for the future. I suppose what I look for is when players do well in their particular roles, although I am not a fan of midfield taggers. It is not how many possessions you get but how you get them and what you do with them that matters. Having a bit of versatility does not go astray either.

Thanks! I agree - how good is it when young players get in the best? Simpson making it last year after some of the rubbish I read about him, was fantastic to see.

The background to the question is some recent efforts in the Blueseum where my memory is really fighting with some of the press reporting of best players in certain games.

Oh... and Warby... thanks for your Basset and Rieniets information, now up in lights in the Blueseum:
