why everyone thinks the game is in such a healthy state.

the tv rights is the only thing keeping the game afloat at the moment.

the average punter has been shafted and most people i speak to are sick to death of the way the AFL treats the fans.

if carlton wasnt a side in the AFL i wouldnt watch it and i am one of but many that feel the same.

It's interesting isn't it Prez.
Your last line sums up a lot of Carlton people I know also.

I didn't want to leave Optus either but 39,000 went to watch a crap Carlton side play the Lions last year at the dome. We can bag the roof and it's artificial conditions, we can bag the surface but there is no better place to watch footy IMO.

i watched the GF but so have millions that have never seen a game before.

but answer this Synbad.

do you watch as many games as AFL now as you did 10 years ago?

I used to go to 2 or 3 games a week, but now unless, Carlton is involved i couldnt give less of a shit, i find it hard to even watch the game on TV as well these days.

is attendance up - it certainly is

but who is going? corporate.

The game has never been as corporate friendly as it has been in the last 5 years, but that does @#$%&! all for the average punter that wants to go along to the game.

its as simple as that, AFL is now so flower involved in "making" money that the game itself has lost the passion that is once had, and that my friend lays squarely at the feet of the AFL.

But of course, we are getting great tv deals, corporate is on the up so ofcourse the game is in a healthy state.

if this game gets any more bland we would all be better off watching the netball, which is what this game is fast becoming with all the bullshit changes.

I watch as many as i can..

And the numbers say more people watch more footy.. live and on TV...than ever before.

The game is a bigger money spinner than ever before...

Thats what the numbers say.....

Or am i wrong???

Now, if we had a brain we would see that the comp does not revolve around Carlton and we better work doubly hard to get back to our rightful place .. or the competition will waltz on past us....and the AFL wont care...

Thats what the numbers say to me..

watch on tv? bollocks to that mate

how many games do you go to?

tv rights is the death of modern sport.

players dont play for the love of a club becuase they may get more money due to tv rights at another club.
supporters dont go to watch their team play live when they can stay at home

its happened the world over

you actually sound like you think you know what youre talking about but give us evidence.. not skata to ponder.

The figures dont suggest the bananas youre suggesting.

I think youre confusing the VFL and the AFL....

The old world order is finishing.. and the world is spinning.. and youre either on or off...

For good or for bad...

Thats just the way the world is .. ya know??? :-D

indeed, but that doesnt mean you have to enjoy it and not complain about it.

yeah but lets not be in dreamland tho....

We either move our operations into the la nuova era or we stay in the past.. and that has to be the mentality right throughout the club.. supporters every bit as much as the admin, footy dept , advertising people and so on.
Just thinking we will be ok because were Caaaarltonnnnn.. wont cut the mustard any longer
