Ones I got to:

1979- Magro hits Jezza (most tense atmosphere I can ever remember at the footy, they used to squeeze 40,000 plus in PP in those days.
'79 GF- as the closest person to Wayne Harmes, a day I'll never forget.

1981 - Buzz's mark...Buzz's Goal..and more premiership quarters than you can shake a stick at (if thats your idea of fun!)

'80's fuzzy dates Essnedon game at PP that they won due to the time wasting decision, a Collingwood game at Vic Park that Fitzy copped the same decision again and we narrowly lost.

A Geelong game at PP where we were 10 goals down at half time and pole axed them after that.

The final in '84 where the dominator played after missing the previous 8 weeks and not being named in the team. (I remember seeing him run from his car to the change rooms with his kit bag the previous Thursday night, and thinking :whats going on here?:

Early '90's- West Coast at PP, they had won the first 10 games of the season and we were ordinary but we beat them, Minton- Connell had a blinder.

Jezza's first game back as coach in Sydney we won a spiteful game, Rhys and the diesel went at it..

'95 The whole seaon, saw every game that year in the flesh, West Coast game stands out at Subi, we won by a point and it was probably the best football I ever saw Carlton play.

'99 Prelim - 'Nuff said. "Best game I've ever seen" (just like Campo )

2001(?) - Essendon* Friday night game was awesome, Kouta, Braddles and SOS all out.


2005 - Wiz Cup Final..I honestly thought we were back and lapped it up. Such an enjoyable night. I heard the Carlton "roar" for the first time in 10 years that night...alas it was just a cock tease


I'm sure I've forgotten some, but they were the standouts for me.

I can't, as it isn't mine anymore. I gave it to my oldest to compensate for him not being able to go to the game. (We're AFL Members, but he was only Restricted back then, and I wasn't able to get him a guest pass.)

The Record also has Bruce Doull's autograph. After the siren I was walking (dancing, more like it) down the stairs at the back of the GSS and Doull was next to me on my right.

Now I would like to see that.

99PF. Was backpacking through Switzerland at the time. Spent the morning (arvo Melb time) on a tour, got back around lunchtime and went to this bar that had an internet cafe. Logged on and the first thing I saw on the AFL website was "Next weeks GF: Kangas vs Carlton, MCG, 2.30pm." Took a few seconds to sink in, then I saw the score and nearly screamed the place down. Best part was there was this arrogant prick Essendon* supporter who we kept bumping into on our travels, and I had the satsifaction of telling him the result. Even better, two days later he lost his passport.

Bit more of a story.....

Missed the GF, we were in Germany by then. Called my sister for a quarter time score as I couldn't find anywhere showing it. Called back an hour later, couldn't get through, my nephew had knocked the phone off the hook!!

The next day went down to Austria. Was in this tiny bar in a village basically in the middle of nowhere. The woman who ran the place was flicking through the channels on the bar's TV, when I saw a Carlton jumper pop up on screen. She kept flicking, so I ran over and convinced her in my best Austrian to flick back. The replays were a week behind, they'd just started showing a full replay of the PF. Imagine my girlfriend's surprise when she walked into the bar later to find me perched at the bar watching that game with the biggest grin ever on my face.

Sigh - There are so many things wrong in my life, all because my dad decided to settle in Sydney instead of Melbourne.

I was brought up a Rugby League supporter and remember very little about Footy in the 70s except for Bruce Doull's bald head and sweatband on every VFL match I managed to see .. also the 77 GF (because the Rugby League grand final was also drawn in that year).

I met an AFL fan / Carlton supporter in 1982 but didn't have any interest in The Game until after Superleague crushed the life out of the Rugby League game in 1997. It was then that I decided to follow the Blues but didn't get into The Game for real until about three years ago.

So I regret not being there 1968 - 1995. Just having those videos / DVDs from the glamour years 1968-1987 (only just learned that I am missing the 79GF!!), and a couple of Home-and-Away matches from 1995 shows me a little of what I missed. Meeting Sticks, Diesel and Mil Hanna at The Last Stand, though, gave me a better taste .. pity about the outcome of that game.

1990 & it was 41 points...probably my favorite H&A match...also the day Agro Jr was born I believe

Missed the 87 GF because Mum said I was too young to go.

Also missed the 93 GF because of a family holiday in Queensland. My Mum and I are Carlton supporters but my Dad and sister go for Essendon*. We booked the holiday at the beginning of the year thinking that there would be no chance on earth that either team would make the GF!

Others that come to mind are the Kouta vs West Coast game at PP, and the 2001 match against the Bummers because of my best friend's 21st.... some friend hey?

However, I was lucky to witness both the 95 GF and 99 Prelim. 2 best days of my life!

Bloody family & friends slow mo!! I know the feeling... My best friend is coming from London on April 1st. I just know she'll have something planned for April 2nd & she hates the footy!

I missed the entire 1987 season, travelling to Europe. The only game I saw that year was the Battle of Brittain, which we lost. [I don't think I will ever forgive Clarkson - may the Fleas of a thousand feral, diseased Camels invest his scrotum and may his arms be too short to scratch.]
I dragged a couple of friends down to the basement of one of the Aussie clubs in London to see a replay, which had an hours drinks break between each Quarter. Longest footy game I ever saw on TV. But worth it.

In 1993 friends of mine in Germany asked me to come over for their wedding, which was on GF Day. Had the school holidays fallen a little differently I would have gone, but there just wasn't time to realistically survive a trip to Europe and back in the time period. So I went to the game. And wished I was in Germany for the entire time.

Like many, I was too young for some of our greatest triumphs. My first GF was 1973! [Many Balme experience the same as Clarkson - and live to spread his fellow travellers amongst his coworkers.]

Only hugging the bridesmaids?!!?

Know the feeling there, Jack .. saw the first Richmond game in 2003 when visiting my new Godson / nephew at the hospital. Only Mrs terg knew what was going on .. I wasn't popular. I bought the Vid on the basis that it was Joshua's actual birthday .. heheh: that was the one where Richo had a hissy-fit on camera "kick it to me kick it to me I SAID KICK IT TO FKKN ME Ahh ya fkkn ....."

99 Prelim.

Had to go to a bloody wedding on the wifes side of the family in Wankaratta. My whole family was at the G.

However, not all was lost because I headed north in a car load of Essendon* supporters. It got even sweeter when poofter Lloyd put em in front and I got the mother of all tirades of how crap the Baggers were for throwing the game away.

We all know who had the last laugh that night.

PS> the groom was, and still is a tosser.....and he barracked for the Bombers as well. Ha ha ha.

Unfortunately my wife was also there, so hugging was as good as it was going to get..

Carl v North in 1995 at OO. We blitzed them early on and then cruised to victory apparently as my sister decided to have a wedding on that day and i missed out on the game.
